Spray paint a pair of wellies silver and leave outside your front door , the kids will come no where near, thinking Gary Glitter lives at your house .

Luckily it's on a Friday this year, so I'll be out quaffing pints and shooting pool whilst the chavs walk round in the cold freezing themselves to death......... Almost brings a tear to my eye

I usually dont answer the door but they see the light on through the curtains of the living room and knock on the window saying they can hear the tv and see the light, cheeky little things

You're all such spoilsports!

On my way home from work tonight I bought some goodies in anticipation of a few visitors to the door later on.

Last year I did the same - except we had no visitors!

So this year - we'll turn off the doorbell and the lights, pretend to be out and eat all the goodies!

People don't even try, they just buy a 99p plastic mask and expect that to count as a costume, if it was like america where people put effort into their costumes then fair play.

I have actually taken the doorbell off the front door because a couple of years ago it got nicked. The cars are going to be moved down the road as well. I'm not saying it's rough around here.

My kids are really really excited about going trick or treating later. I've been around to some friends houses today and given them some sweets to give to my lads

I stayed with some people the other year on halloween and they hid in the basement, they said they done it every year. I didn't think there were that many miserable people about until I read this thread

I didn't get any last year.

If I lived in the suburbs I would be tempted to have 2 bowls of sweets. One with nice sweets in for the kids under 12 and one that has had some "treatment" for when the 17yr olds chav ******s turn up

Ditto. Probably 40+ kids so far.

We're fairly out of the way too.

Mixture of nice kids who make an effort, and say thankyou.

And older kids wearing black hoodies and just a mask, who act surly/cocky and skulk off.

I've nearly run out of sweets so the lucky ones ahead will get....

Has any body actually done a trick on kids coming? I mean it is "Trick or Treat" after all, it sort of gives you implied permission to engineer some contrapment up to your doorbell (electric shock maybe or loud werewolf growl) that lights up the house in some scary light display with glow in the dark skeletons hanging from the gutters and a bucket of goo falling from the roof top.
