Parcel delivery phone call 'scam'?

Hi all,

Just wondered whether any other forum members had experienced/heard of a scam involving phone calls supposedly from parcel delivery firms.

Twice this week I've had calls to my office asking for someone (who no longer works here) saying they have a parcel for him.

This morning's call said he was from DHL and provided me with a phone number and a tracking number, both of which appeared to be completely bogus. (i.e. I phoned the number and it was 'out of service' and when I typed the tracking number into DHL.com it wasn't recognised.)

Seems a bit scammy to me, but I haven't heard of anything similar recently. (I know a couple of years ago there was something going around where people were supposedly recieving "We tried to deliver..." cards encouraging them to call a £1.50 a minute number...)

Anyone know of anything doing the rounds?

Cheers,

These were phone calls, not a card in the door.

I have heard that debt collectors also use a similar tactic to fish people out.

Yeah they'll do anything to get them on the phone then they pounce.

Re: Parcel delivery phone call 'scam'?

We get these scams with recruitment scumpanies. They phone up saying they have a parcel for you, then try to get some of your colleague's name and phone numbers incase you are out when the parcel 'arrives'. They are just phising for new names. How stupid do they think we are? (Actually, unfortunately some of my collaegues are.)
