Re: cheapest car insurance

Generally I use TescoCompare to get an idea of the quotes, call up my current insurer tell them the quote i've had and ask if they can come near it.

It might also depend what kind of car you're driving, certain insurers can do cheaper insurance than the highstreet brokers because they specialise in "faster" cars etc...

Adrian Flux for example can sometimes give quotes much better than i've found anywhere else but only with certain cars.

It's a matter of looking around, compare websites are pretty good, and also a bit of haggling on the phone will work a treat!

Re: cheapest car insurance

I always go through Quidco when I renew my car insurance, you can pretty much always get at least £70 cashback that way. Obviously there's no point doing that if the premium is a lot more expensive than somewhere that's not on Quidco but if you do get a good quote and that company are available on Quidco then you can effectively take the cashback amount off your quote to arrive at the real figure paid.

Re: cheapest car insurance

Go via Quidco, I got my renewal through at £287, then used Gocompare and Lloyds came out top at £191, went via Quidco and got £45 cashback, always do Quidco, rather me get the cash than Gocompare.

Re: cheapest car insurance

even though you might enter the same details on all the comparison sites, the prices can still vary between the same insurers

e.g. for my dad's car insurance a few weeks ago, I used TescoCompare, Confused, GoCompare, Elephant, Money Supermarket etc ... and also looked up quidco cashback deals
- the cheapest deal (like for like) for him was AA insurance via TescoCompare (AA were more expensive directly and through other comparison sites, and Quidco cashback deals still ended up more expensive) ... and then as the site started playing up, I phoned AA Insurance directly on a freephone number, quoting the quote reference number and they got me another £25 off just for taking 5 minutes with them to get a no-obligation home insurance quote.

Re: cheapest car insurance

Give LV (Liverpool Victoria) a go.

Changed over to them last year and they were loads cheaper than any other quotes I got for exactly the same cover down to courtesy car etc. Note some insurers may seem chepaer but look at the details and make sure you are comparing like for like.

renewal quotes are usually always more expensive ... always cheaper not to renew - and that includes getting a 'fresh' quote from your same insurer
- better deals as a new customer rather than an existing customer who they think won't bat an eyelid (and many don't)

Re: cheapest car insurance

Just had my renewal come in and no surprise it has gone up a load. A quick look at moneysupermarket and I can get it a third cheaper.

The insurer i'm with now is near the top of the list and a lot cheaper than the renewal price they gave me

Exactly! Fully comp doesn't mean the same thing it used to ... so always best to check you are receiving the same level of coverage (e.g. legal cover, courtesy car, injury, no claims protection etc etc) and what the (voluntary) excesses are or can be

LV are the best for me at the moment, I do the rounds each year and nobody comes close, or if they do they match it so I dont have to change

They offer more than some of the cheapo ones such as courtesy car etc.

The home insurance is also great!

I pay annually, it's pricey enough without monthly admin fees on top.

yep, bit of a scam that .... have never ever spotted monthly premiums at the same price as annual for motor insurance, yet most of these insurers do offer this for home insurance

Re: cheapest car insurance

Direct Line have come out cheapest for me this time, and by quite a margin. They're also giving £25 free petrol at the moment.

I'm very wary of the comparison sites, as they only list companies prepared to give them a commission for the referral.

Once upon a time, they were the cheapest for me, then some little scum bags pulled my door off and were caught at it by the police.

When I claimed to get the car fix, you should have seen the next quote DL gave me, I told them to get stuffed unless they sorted it out, they didn't bother. Never again.

they seem to get the commission by charging you higher prices than if you go direct with the company. I used confused and elephant and some other company were my cheapest but when go to the actual sites and typing the information manually on the sites my quotes were £50-100 cheaper!

Just a thought-has anyone on here ever stayed with an insurer more than one year?

After phoning Churchill about renewall they matched the best price i'd found from The Prudential, they even gave me free legal cover inclusive.
So I stayed with them. In my 2nd year with them now. Both my parents use them so they also gave discount for that, but it was taken into the matching anyways.

That's why it pays to shop around and check as many places as you can, some people say its too much effort and just renew with who they're with. I don't see how a once a year thing that takes an hour or two can be such a bad thing if it can save you so much.

Same with my checks with money supermarket. I checked the individual sites of the top 3 and they were all dearer.

Re: cheapest car insurance

Went with First Alternative a couple of years ago as they were £50 cheaper than the then current insurer. Stayed with them for 2-3 years as they continued to be competitive & also reduced their annual quote with a simple phone call.

Got my renewal quote this a.m, it was £20 less than last year, I called them & they said they couldn't better it eventhough I'd found cheaper online with several others. I've gone with Admiral for this coming year - they were £80 cheaper than First Alternative, so that's a £100 saving in 12 months. Paying just £250 now so very happy.

The insurance company that my other half works for is without the cheapest I've seen. Unfortunatly you've got to be in the US armed forces to be insured by them!

im with www.swiftcover.com this year bet my renewal by £190

Bet most others by around £150. Mentioned it in work and 2-3 have also had quotes and taken policies saving around £100 on average compared to their renewal.

Its all online too, i know the proof of a company is in the eating but i dont particuarly want to be eating this one

Bet most others by around £150. Mentioned it in work and 2-3 have also had quotes and taken policies saving around £100 on average compared to their renewal.

Its all online too, i know the proof of a company is in the eating but i dont particuarly want to be eating this one
Unfortunately I had the misfortune to have to claim on my policy with them (not my fault and was recovered). Found out why they were cheap and will not be renewing.
