Re: cheapest car insurance

Generally I use TescoCompare to get an idea of the quotes, call up my current insurer tell them the quote i've had and ask if they can come near it.

It might also depend what kind of car you're driving, certain insurers can do cheaper insurance than the highstreet brokers because they specialise in "faster" cars etc...

Adrian Flux for example can sometimes give quotes much better than i've found anywhere else but only with certain cars.

It's a matter of looking around, compare websites are pretty good, and also a bit of haggling on the phone will work a treat!

Re: cheapest car insurance

I always go through Quidco when I renew my car insurance, you can pretty much always get at least £70 cashback that way. Obviously there's no point doing that if the premium is a lot more expensive than somewhere that's not on Quidco but if you do get a good quote and that company are available on Quidco then you can effectively take the cashback amount off your quote to arrive at the real figure paid.

Re: cheapest car insurance

Go via Quidco, I got my renewal through at £287, then used Gocompare and Lloyds came out top at £191, went via Quidco and got £45 cashback, always do Quidco, rather me get the cash than Gocompare.

Re: cheapest car insurance

even though you might enter the same details on all the comparison sites, the prices can still vary between the same insurers

e.g. for my dad's car insurance a few weeks ago, I used TescoCompare, Confused, GoCompare, Elephant, Money Supermarket etc ... and also looked up quidco cashback deals
- the cheapest deal (like for like) for him was AA insurance via TescoCompare (AA were more expensive directly and through other comparison sites, and Quidco cashback deals still ended up more expensive) ... and then as the site started playing up, I phoned AA Insurance directly on a freephone number, quoting the quote reference number and they got me another £25 off just for taking 5 minutes with them to get a no-obligation home insurance quote.

Re: cheapest car insurance

Give LV (Liverpool Victoria) a go.

Changed over to them last year and they were loads cheaper than any other quotes I got for exactly the same cover down to courtesy car etc. Note some insurers may seem chepaer but look at the details and make sure you are comparing like for like.

renewal quotes are usually always more expensive ... always cheaper not to renew - and that includes getting a 'fresh' quote from your same insurer
- better deals as a new customer rather than an existing customer who they think won't bat an eyelid (and many don't)

Re: cheapest car insurance

Just had my renewal come in and no surprise it has gone up a load. A quick look at moneysupermarket and I can get it a third cheaper.

The insurer i'm with now is near the top of the list and a lot cheaper than the renewal price they gave me

Exactly! Fully comp doesn't mean the same thing it used to ... so always best to check you are receiving the same level of coverage (e.g. legal cover, courtesy car, injury, no claims protection etc etc) and what the (voluntary) excesses are or can be

LV are the best for me at the moment, I do the rounds each year and nobody comes close, or if they do they match it so I dont have to change

They offer more than some of the cheapo ones such as courtesy car etc.

The home insurance is also great!

Re: cheapest car insurance

I pay annually, it's pricey enough without monthly admin fees on top.

yep, bit of a scam that .... have never ever spotted monthly premiums at the same price as annual for motor insurance, yet most of these insurers do offer this for home insurance
