Windscreen chip and insurance question.

I've got a chip on the windscreen. Ringing around it will cost £80+ to fix ( i would have thought a new screen would cost that much ).

If I go through the insurance then it will be free. It is claimed that this type of claim will not affect no claims discount or the following years premium. This sounds good.

A question about this: Despite it not affecting following premiums, do the insurance companies sneak extra onto the following years premium for making a claim?

Re: Windscreen chip and insurance question.

I had it done last year. It cost me nothing but when my renewal came up it stated "windscreen claim" £50. Although i did not pay anything towards it, it went on my "claim record". It did not change my no claims bonus.

Generally a windscreen 'replacement' claim you'll pay a £50-£80 excess & your no claim bonus/premium isn't affected by it.

With a windscreen repair, I understand some insurance companies will fix it for free & again your no claim bonus/premium is unaffected

Re: Windscreen chip and insurance question.

It will be detailed in your policy terms.

In a typical policy (but do check yours), repairs are paid for by the insurance company in full (no excess). Any new glass is subject to an excess. Glass claims DO NOT have any effect on your renewal premium/no claims discount. In a typical policy.
