Recommend a good Alarm Clock please

I'm quite a heavy sleeper so a good alarm clock is vital to me, unfortunately I don't have one at the moment.

I was using a Sony one but the alarm on that one wasn't loud enough. So I'm back to using an ancient Hitachi one I dug out of retirement, which is very basic but LOUD.

Anyway, can anyone recommend me a decent alarm clock. Musts include ease of use and loudness of alarm. Also being able to easily set multiple alarm times would be an advantage, as I normally wake up at a different time each day.

Thanks in advance, Paul

Re: Recommend a good Alarm Clock please

Stick with your Hitachi, set the alarm then place it on the other side of your room. Then you will get out of bed in the morning

You are a heavy sleeper.

At 10% it wakes me up.

Is the radio louder?

Re: Recommend a good Alarm Clock please

Have you tried a cat? It will take about a week to set the routine/time it wants to be fed, but if you try sleeping past this time, you will be woken, one way or another. But they don't seem to understand the concept of weekends and/or bank holidays!

Re: Recommend a good Alarm Clock please

I usually use my mobile. A lot more flexible than a lot of alarm clocks I've had.

Re: Recommend a good Alarm Clock please

Thanks for the suggestions so far . If the worst comes to worst I'll probably end up buying a rooster, (and who cares about the neighbours).

Yep, the radio's louder but for some reason I find a radio easier to sleep through.
Maybe if I put the alarm the other side of the room, as suggested. Unfortunately, the Hitachi's now broken, since I washed it to get rid of the years and years of crud built-up on it.

Re: Recommend a good Alarm Clock please

Ironically I am currently complaining that I wake up too early... 8am sharp

Why? Just moved and my new room has cream-white curtains. Which is fine in a minimalist style kind of way but useless for blocking out the sun. So I am up every morning to a bright room

Bloody students...that's a lie-in.

On-topic: I also use my mobile, and have it set to a sound that starts quietly and gets increasingly more shrill and irritating - if I don't get up it keeps going until it's so loud it wakes the neighbours.

Re: Recommend a good Alarm Clock please

My son has set his rather basic mobile to play back a recording he made on it. It's his own voice shouting Wake Up that gets progressively louder as he raised his voice. It wakes me up instantly from my room and I would happily walk the 12 yards to his bedroom in order to toss it out of the window Fortunately he only uses it for special occasions.

Another good tip. Wake up before you lose your mobile to an unfortunate 1st floor window dropping

What you need is the Sonic Boom 1000 my friend.

HOTLINKED IMAGE REMOVED BY MOD

Failing this, have children. Then you'll never sleep again.

Re: Recommend a good Alarm Clock please

When we got the puppy, I never got any sleep for 2 weeks

2 weeks because she kept pining at night. 2 weeks until she got used to the fact humans cannot be around her 24/7 as we physically cannot do it. 2 weeks wracked(sp?) with guilt I could not sleep anyway

Re: Recommend a good Alarm Clock please

Move house, go for one right next to a huge church.

Nice loud alarm, on the hour, every hour, with a handy snooze feature giving reminders every 15 mins.

You never have to set it, never have to press any buttons, and you can't just turn it off no matter how drunk you are.

The best part is, you dont ever have to worry about sleeping till lunch on a Sunday, and 'messing up' your weekend.

God is a cock.

I've also got one of these, it sounds like R2D2, is very very loud, and will get you out of bed. You get one press of the snooze button, then when it next goes off it jumps off the table and buggers off over the other side of the room, so you need to get up to switch the thing off.

However, on the bad side you can defeat it by just pressing the button to turn the alarm off completely which is on the front, or turn the wheels off so it doesn't roll away. However, if you stick to not pressing those and use it as intended, you'll def get up.
