Marry someone who's already a national of one of those countries? Get sponsored by family who live out there?

Or fill in the paperwork and wait 4/5 years for residency status I imagine...

I'd guess that american culture in the USA makes sense and would be expected - he's not wanting to go abroad to find british culture now is he.

I'll give up there.

If you really believe the grass is greener on the other side, maybe you should go.

Every country has its pros and cons. None are perfect. Sometimes they'll be a bit better, sometimes a bit worse.

Sometimes it'll be better for some and worse for others, and vice versa.

At the moment for me the biggest pain in the backside is people moaning all the time.

Agree with all of that, but in particular that comment.

I know people in the US, Netherlands, Aus, all over the Western World making the same complaints.

I have British friends in Germany looking to move back, as that nation, to quote them, "is in a mess".

You first have to select a country to meet your requirements. I'm guessing that a socialist Govt is out, so no Australia, France, Spain, Portugal, Scandanavia or New Zealand.

High crime rules out the US.

"Untrustworthy Politicians" rules out Italy and most of Africa (generally corrupted by UK companies).

I'm guessing "laughable justice system" or a soft "politically correct" attitude to offenders is out, so that rules out all low crime countries.

The weather rules out Canada.

And "Rising gas" would appear to rule out the whole world.

Mars it is.

As well as having your cake and eating it, you want it to be zero calorie too.

I met up with a friend recently who emigrated to NZ a few years ago. He moaned about the number of ex-pats now living there!

There's thousands of migration agencies that deal with this type of thing, some good, some bad.

Maybe take a look on Usenet for groups geared towards this first, also take a look at :

I believe Poland is very popular at the moment. Although your post does qualify you for platinum membership of the whingeing pom club. I like the Uk (no matter the current government).
  • People are pretty tolerant and easy going (unlike the US)
  • Not sure where you live but feral youth is not a major issue in my street. Nor is any crime for that matter. (the number of times I've left the back door or car open and still got back to find everything there would amaze you)
  • You can pick your culture how you wish and if you've ever lived in the US you'll realise how unamerican the UK is (you can see naked women on TV, we're a lot more atheist, we get drunk at the drop of a hat, we are thinner (just) and we are polited to each other (go elsewhere to notice the difference)
  • Even in places like Aus and NZ they have their problems like NZ having high levels of domestic violence, Australia with binge drinking (ring any bells) etc. etc.

I think it was Jean Paul Sartre who said that "true travel was not seeing different places with the same eyes but the same place with different eyes." Sometimes changing your perspective can do wonders for perception.

I meant TGV as I assume you'll want to travel light and not bring any 'baggage' with you, certainly not an HGVs worth.

This is true in France too. But (and this is a huge but) - they do it in French, which means it goes straight over my head. Brilliant!

When I am elected president of England, I propose to
- split the country in two
- put all the chavs, criminals and politicians (besides myself) into one half
- and then tow the other half south so we can get some decent weather.

Anyone want to vote for me?

The biggest pain for me is people thinking everything is normal and right as rain, which probably explains why UK is where it is atm as they have the same mentality as the people running the country.

I don't think everything is right as rain.

I think things could be improved in many areas. But I think there's a lot of good out there, too.

And I think most other countries have many, if not all the problems we do, plus others beside.

I note you conveniently sidestepped the issue of the weather.

I see that NL and GB have no policies whatsoever as to how to improve this, which has steadily gone down since they come to power. Less sun, more rain, stronger winds.

Whereas I expect Cameron to provide increased levels of sunshine, and to only allow rain at night and never at weekends so that we can plan our barbeques better in advance. And strong wind will only be allowed during Cowes week so that the yatching fraternity can have a jolly good time.

Re: HELP! How do I emigrate to the US, Australia, NZ, anywhere!!

I seriously entertained the idea about 8 years ago when I was a workaholic with no ties at all but after weighing up the pros and cons I decided to stay in the good old UK.

In another 25 years I might even consider it again depending on the economy etc and how my childrens lives, healths are etc.
Like others have said grass is always greener etc. It all depends on what you want to sacrafice etc. I don't have a problem with the uk at all besides the justice system and I'm more negative then some with being part of the system with my job.
Fuel costs don't effect me really as I work local plus my wife and myself earn quite a bit between us, have close families and really great friends so for me life couldn't be sweeter at the moment. Just plod along and keep your head whilst others around you lose there's!

I don't think everything is right as rain.

I think things could be improved in many areas. But I think there's a lot of good out there, too.

And I think most other countries have many, if not all the problems we do, plus others beside.

Totally agree. Took my two young lads down to Preston Park (Brighton) yesterday. Everyone was out with their young families. The "lads" playing footie and drinking Holsten Pils, Church outings with the barbie. The sun was shining and everyone was having a great time. What matters so much is friends and family. Without these anywhere can feel pretty crap. We love living in Brighton and our boys do too. We would really struggle to leave it all behind. Also, if you like your community and think it could do with some improving then get up and do it. Running away from a problem never solved anything. We do have our issues but with a bit more people feeling "empowered"...

I do think that the weather has got worse since Gordon Brown came to power though. I'm voting tory at the next election just to get a bit more sunshine.

You are right.

Look at the last year under Tony Blair

In the UK, the year has been remarkable, with the Central England Temperature series setting a succession of records. Not only have individual months set new records, but more significantly, extended periods have also done so:

Warmest month on record set this July, with a mean temperature of 19.7 °C
Warmest ever September (16.8 °C)
Warmest ever April to October having a mean temperature of 14.6 °C
Warmest ever autumn with a mean temperature of 12.6 °C
Since GB came to power, what have we had? Endless rain.

Bring back Tony!

He used to play electric guitar, you know.

DC will make the weather worse. Look at that tory logo with the tree. You don't get trees that green without an awful lot of rain.

Mark my words. Oh yes!

As soon as GB came into power, there was a flood worthy of a Charlton Heston movie! Coincidence? I think not. I think there might be a god, and I think he's angry at El Gordo.

(Since he's omnipotent - as opposed to Gordy, who's just impotent - he probably knows already that the Gordster is going to do something naughty like start taxing the church's profits, even if the GordAss hasn't said it aloud yet.)

I have to admit to having a certain amount of sympathy with the OP. I am also fed up with living in the UK and wouldn't mind a move to Western Oz or New Zealand. I used to think Florida would be a good place to settle on retirement but my last couple of visits have really put me off.

What gets me about living here is how hateful people have become. There is no community or neighbourly spirit anymore and society is geared towards getting every last penny out of you. I don't want my kids growing up into that.

Me and the missus want to move and teach abroad, but the main reason is to be able to better afford a house.

That and wanting to experience a different culture (and better weather )
