help - power converter

hi can anyone here help me?

I am thinking of buying an m-audio fast track ultra 8r from america because i can get it cheeper but i have a wee question when i get it back to the uk will i be able to get a power cable for it to work with the Uk mains? the back of the item says it takes 9Vdc and 3.5A (i think you can get 9V cables easily right? but what does the 3.5a bit mean?)

any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Re: help - power converter

You should be able to find a large enough 9V psu, I'll find the site I got something similar from.

Re: help - power converter

3.5A means that the unit draws up to 3 1/2 Amps of current when powered at 9 volts. So if you buy a UK 9 Volt power supply you need to make sure it is capable of delivering at least that current at 9 Volts. So a 9 Volt, 4 Amp power supply would be fine.

You need to make sure that the supplied power supply is not custom for that device, like a lot of mobile phone chargers are. If it is generic (ordinary) you still need to make sure that the power supply you buy has the correct size and type of connector with the correct polarity; the positive and negative on the inside and outside bits to match the unit.

Can you see one in a UK shop to see what sort of power supply it has? If it is branded "M-Audio" beware, but if it's some nasty chinese thing you should be OK.
