DVD clearout. What price to sell at?

I've decided to clearout a lot of my DVD's but have no idea of their value.

What would you suggest I list them at? - £1, £2 etc?

They are just regular movies, I'll probably keep the box-sets until I have re-purchased those on Blu-Ray etc....

They're all in lovely condition though, played no more than once or twice in total!

What about postage - any ideas what padded envelopes and UK recorded delivery will cost?

Alternatively, any ideas what places like Cash Converters, CEX give?

Cheers all!

Re: DVD clearout. What price to sell at?

Hi. I'm sure others have way more experience at this, but start price of 99p is the norm I think.

But if you go the padded envelope & recorded delivery route the p&p will far out-weigh ths cost of the DVD probably, and may put people off.

A lot of people seem to charge say £2.50 for p&p then sent items in a standard envelope by normal post to save money & maximise their profit.

I sold a lot on ebay a few years back but the profit was worth the effort because they were mainly high value items (eg £20 upwards). Preparing ebay listings can be quite time consuming, I'm not sure I'd do it for standard items I knew would only make a few quid per listing. I'd probably go for a job-lot approach.

Re: DVD clearout. What price to sell at?

I'd say a £ each. maybe £1.50 for a 2 disc? I got shot of most of my DVD's a couple of years ago as i'd bought far to many.

I think you can forget about CEX as they only seem to be giving credit at the moment and i think the prices would be low anyway. check the website (www.cex.co.uk)

i'm not sure about Cash Converters as they give pretty low prices.

Re: DVD clearout. What price to sell at?

I'm guessing that you don't want to list on ebay, as if you did, you'd just start at 1p and get pretty much what they're worth.

I would, however, check out ebay to see what similar items are going for. I always find the "Completed listings" under "Show only" search options on the left hand side very useful for high volume items like DVDs and mobile phones (you have to sign in to use this option).

Re: DVD clearout. What price to sell at?

Cash converters gave us 50p each for DVD's they were old DVD's not new high value ones.

So half the price of selling individually but it took 10 mins including traveling to sell 70 DVD's this way, selling them individually with posting would have taken hours and lots of management and effort.

I'd take them to CEX if you have alot. Selling individually will be alot of hassle, you'll get more money but are bound to have some problems.

Re: DVD clearout. What price to sell at?

The problem with ebay is they take 10p for listing, whether it sells or not they keep that 10p.

Then they take a percentage of the selling amount when it sells.

Then when the person pays via paypal, paypal take a percentage of that too, then when you convert your paypal account money to your bank they take another load for offering that 'service' too.

So if you sold something for £2.50 ebay/paypal would probably take, quite literally, around £1 of it.

Makes me ill just thinking about it.

Another option would be have you thought of Amazon marketplace, or possibly play marketplace.

I have never used them myself but reading on forums of people who sell many DVD's most have switched entirely to Amazon marketplace from Ebay.

Re: DVD clearout. What price to sell at?

Car boot them.
I was getting £1 each from market traders, then they sold them for £2 or £3. Instead I sold them all at an average of £2.30 ( early on got more, later reduced price to clear). Ebay isn't an option as I don't trust it, the sellers, or the buyers. Maybe a bit too generalised, but used it once, got burned, and never went back.
The car boot was quick, easy, no fleabay hassles, and no comebacks. It cost a fiver to stand, and I made nearly £300. The wife flogged loads of stuff too.

Exclamation Re: DVD clearout. What price to sell at?

Hi,

1) Avoid CEX, as they won't offer you a great deal. Use them as a last resort, if you've tried all other avenues of selling your DVD's. An average DVD will get about £3-£4. Brand new releases, only get £6-£7, and DVD boxed sets generally get paid at around 35% of the current prices in shops/on the Net.

2) Avoid Chav Convertors at all costs! Never, ever use them. You'd be far better off car-booting the lot, or selling the discs as a "job-lot" in your local Free-ads paper/magazine. CC's only ever give about 50p per title, even if it's a boxed set! They're con-artists at the best of times!

3) You could e-Bay, but as others have pointed out, you may not make much profit, and you may eventually actually make almost nothing, after all the fees and cuts that get taken by e-Bay, Pay Pal, and postage charges, etc.

4) Advertise on the AV Forums, and let people make you offers for either each title individually, a group of titles if they want several, or for the whole lot! That's the cheapest option for you, and probably the quickest, safest and easiest!

Ultimately, however, you should make a title list, and post it. Without knowing what titles are for sale, people won't likely be interested in buying stuff from you.

Best of luck!

Re: DVD clearout. What price to sell at?

I've just did a local car boot today, its one of the largest ones in the Notts/Derby area.

I had a box of around 30 DVDs that I sold for £1.00 to £2.00, came back with around 8 unsold DVDs!

Along with my other house crap, had a good day, came home with £180!!!

Re: DVD clearout. What price to sell at?

Hiya mate, the best advice so far is to car boot them.

I've tried to sell my collection of circa 200 DVDs on the forums and probably sold about 30 of them - and that was over a year ago.

They simply don't sell anymore on the forums as all people are after are blurays.

Car boot is the best option as you'll get a couple of quid for each one and there is no postage to worry about.

In fact, it's how I'm going to get rid of mine.

Hehe.

I think I'll post a list up here next week and then any that don't go I'll car boot at some point.

Cheers for the help everyone.
