Anyone got a Kaupthing Edge savings account?

Has anyone got a kaupthing edge savings account and is it easy to use/any good? They seem to have a good interest rate according to moneysavingexpert and I think I might open an account with them. There was a bit of scaremongering in this thread about them:

Savings accounts....?

However as they are signed up to the banking code, cash up to £35k is protected anyway, so I don't see what the problem is if they do go belly up, which is surely quite unlikely anyway?

Anyone agree/disagree? Opinions

Rates don't look anything special to me, there are banks with better reputations offering very similar.

Similar, not better I said, the top four here are all highly regarded - no scaremongering if that concerns you:

I've started saving with them a couple of weeks ago so no real feedback that I can give you but the reason i went with these was: there owned by a larger bank, signed up to banking code so worries under 35k,monthly interest, easy to withdawn no penilites.

Wifes got one with Abbey @ 7.25% but your tied in for 13 months & can only pay by standing order if you try pay by any other method the rate drops alot!!Withdraw at anytime the rate drops alot for that month!

Did you go with KE in the end then, or did the cynical lot persuade you not to?

Just signed up a few weeks ago. Recommend by other half's parents who has had one for a while, plus the recommendation from moneysavingexpert.

Has anyone seen any hard evidence that KE are signed up to FSCS?

I can find no record on the FSA register.

You must be joking as the second one on the list ( Heritable Bank) is owned by Landsbanki of Iceland which is another that the City has concerns over.

Looks like the FSA register search is a bit pants. Registered number 222968.

Applied for an account out of curiosity & was surprised to have one opened without any of the usual proof of ID. Still haven't decided whether to actually make a deposit!

Some alternatives:
