Re: Europe votes on anti-piracy laws

Fortunately the European Convention on Human rights overrides this and will protect us.

"suspected of" won't do.

Re: Europe votes on anti-piracy laws

Slightly off topic, but IMO it will only be a matter of time before agreements with ISP's etc come into effect where they monitor / block persisent illegal MP3 downloaders.

Obviously this will only impact on those who download from the like's of "Limewire" as opposed to the hardcore downloads who use private bittorrent trackers and newsgroups with IP masking software such as Tor.

Re: Europe votes on anti-piracy laws

For Info, Virgin Media have already commenced the 3 strikes and your out ruling.

There was an advert on TV warning their users of this the other day.

Basically, you will get 2 warnings and the third time your internet service will be disconnected.

I think the Carphone Warehouse's broadband service has already said it won't go down Virgins route so you can always switch to them.

Re: Europe votes on anti-piracy laws

It's not so much the anti piracy bit that gets me, mainly because I don't use file sharing and I buy my music on itunes and rent films from blockbuster. It's this bit that really concerns me:-

In addition it bestows powers on governments to decide which programs can be "lawfully" used on the internet.
That really is taking things way too far imo.

Is that Talk Talk or AOL then because most offers (Free Laptop/PS3) are with AOL

Re: Europe votes on anti-piracy laws

Do they honestly believe this will stop pirating material in anyway shape or form? Honestly, if you know where to look it'll be as easy as ever.

Re: Europe votes on anti-piracy laws

Not really the first post was before the vote and my second post linked to the result of the vote, but whats important here is that the control freaks masquerading as democratically elected leaders now have the legislation in place to exert a significant amount of control as to how the Internet is run.
