Help with boiler #2

Didn't want to hijack the other thread so i thought i'd start my own.

In the last couple of days it has become nigh on impossible to get any hot water. Looking at the boiler the pilot light is still on but the boiler won't fire up when the hot water is turned on.

I'm no expert so my first thought was to hit it, I did and it fired?!? After a couple of tests this seems to work, not straight away but eventually.

I imagne this is going to be a case of calling someone out and shelling out some cash but in the hope that it might be something I can sort out myself i'm putting the query to anyone in here with some experiance in these things.

Thanks very much,

Smaz.

Re: Help with boiler #2

Chances are it's the diverter valve, or some of the electrics that go with it, or the domestic hot water temperature sensor (if the boiler thinks the water is already hot, it won't fire) - what boiler is it again? Make and model? LMK, and also ask the same question on www.diynot.com as you may get a nice quick answer. A lot of combi boilers come with a fault finding guide in the installers manual that a chimp with a multimeter could follow to diagnose the fault (however the engineers that work for British Gas don't seem to quite measure up against said chimp....)

Sorry , should've had that information when i posted. Once i clear the mini tip that is the cupboard in which the boiler resides (again) i'll post it.

Thanks for the quick response.

Smaz.
