Need some advise on my lawn

We've just recently moved house,a couple of weeks before we moved in the landlord put down new turf.. Unfortunately he did'nt maintain it and the result of this is a brown patchy lawn with some green tufts of green grass scattered around.

How can I restore it back to health.. I've cut the grass and applied lawn feed and water it every other day.. What else can I do ?

Re: Need some advise on my lawn

At the very least, water it twice a day but not in direct sunlight.

I am not a gardening expert, but I have just last week laid a hundred square meters of turf on my garden.

sounds like the turf has nearly died out . You'll have to be partient, water as suggested and wait till the autumn.Hopefully by then it'll have recovered.

Re: Need some advise on my lawn

It's possible that there's not enough soil below the turf, e.g. it may be laid on concrete.

Assuming it isn't, water regularly as suggested and use a decent "lawn restorer" type treatment and maybe re-seed the worst areas.

Re: Need some advise on my lawn

I would go with LGS's advice, as he does this for a living.

my 2p worth is dont cut it too short, leave plenty of length where you can until its looks healthier, but I doubt you will have a nice green lawn until next summer

yes if the soil is poor (ie little topsoil)you are not going to get a great lawn but it sounds like it has bee neglected.Newly laid turf must be watered right from the outset. In fact the soil should be damp when they are first laid othwerwise they shrink and you get gaps appearing between them.
I remember during the 1976 drought some turf was laid outside some council flats which went brown but it did eventually recover.

Re: Need some advise on my lawn

I can highly recommend Evergreen's Lawn Repair Kit which rejuvenated my completely knackered lawn very well. Needs to be applied in March, though!

http://www.lovethegarden.com/product...repairkit.html

Given the dead patches of grass appearing thanks to the builders we have in at the moment dumping stuff on the lawn, I guess I'll be using it again next year...

Re: Need some advise on my lawn

My grass was crap when I moved in november. Ive cut it as often as I can so the light can get to the botom of the grass which helps stop the yellowing. Its getting really good at the mo. The rain last night did it some good.

Re: Need some advise on my lawn

We have a groundsman. Doesn't everybody?

Well, when I say we have a groundsman, I mean we have this lot in to improve the condition of our lawn
http://www.lawnmaster.co.uk/

Not too expensive. Still in the middle of the course of treatment, so I can't vouch for the result yet. But we saw some of our neighbours using them and getting good results, so we are trying them too.
