Skittles Vodka

Okay, so this is probably one of the best drinking-related creations of all time:

http://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/msbracken...ething_random/

My question is: how long can it keep for? We've a pretty major party coming up and I plan on putting out five bottles of the stuff but would rather get it done now whilst I have time (for a party in two weeks) as I'm working lots next week. Will it be alright to refrigerate/freeze for two weeks?

I would have thought that the alcohol content of the vodka would allow it to be stored for easily the amount of time you're talking about as it should kill any bacteria and germs.

A mate of mine used to work at a bar and they used to have a whole rack of different flavours including chocolate bar ones. For the chocolate ones they'd melt whatever chocolate it was in the microwave and then add a little vodka and mix repeating, as needed until they'd got the right strength and consistency.

Some of the alcohol would be lost by heating it up but if the bottle that I made was anything to go by it's very little.

EDIT: Not sure how safe it is to microwave alcohol it might be better to use a ban marie.

Re: Skittles Vodka

My tip... don't bother! We made strawberry and lemon ones and they looked amazing! (I'll post a pic when I get home) couldn't wait to get on it.

It took a lot of effort (filtering out the crap that gets stored up) and omg... it tasted simply disgusting. Way too harsh to drink on its on and didnt really taste nice mixed. Will not be bothering again! (btw, weren't just me that made it, a couple of us made seperate ones in case you were thinking my recepie was crap!)

Re: Skittles Vodka

I've also tried with various sweets etc. it never tastes as nice as it looks - maybe just add a couple of drops of food colouring as a novelty factor instead ??

Or just make jugs up of eg. vodka and blue curacao, vodka and cranberry/red bull etc.

Enjoy

Re: Skittles Vodka

It wasn't really as a drink to drink straight, rather in order to make a series of shots - thus negating the need for it to taste pleasant and instead intending to make it palatable.

Re: Skittles Vodka

Do a vodka melon.

Get a watermelon. Create a hole in the top right into the middle and keep pouring vodka into it over a couple of days, topping it up everytime what you have added has been absorbed. Then just slice as a normal melon

Can also inject vodka into oranges using a syringe. Can also have fun with a syringe by injecting blue food colouring into someones sealed carton of milk - lol.

It will keep for ages. I've done it few times and it's gone down well at parties. Really simple to make: put skittles in vodka bottle

If you are putting all the colours in together I would take out the green ones. If you don't you get a nasty looking brown colour. Without the green ones you get a nice red colour. Keep shaking/mixing now and again. You'll need to put it through a sieve before the party to remove some gunk/scum off the top.

Make sure you take some vodka out of the bottle to account for the increase in volume.

Kris.

Re: Skittles Vodka

I'll be using 5 small bottles of 35cl Smirnoff and 5 large bags of Skittles, splitting each of the colours and then filling the fifth bottle with Fox's Glacier Mints. Then we'll be running 'lines' of shots for the evening, or so goes the plan.

Thanks for the advice!

Re: Skittles Vodka

I tried skittles like this, wasn't very nice had some essence of the skittles there but you could taste it was prure vodka. You could use more expensive vokda which has a more mellow taste (e.g. grey goose) but what would the point be?

What is a lot better is the skittles cocktail, tastes like skittles and looks illuminous green.
Vodka, orange juice, lemonade, blue bols (caracou i think) and tabbo. I'll find the quanities, and post them. Mind it tastes like skittles pop put is pretty strong while there is not even a hint of alochol.
