Smile How do you train to be a tanker driver

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7460452.stm

14% pay raise to £41750 for driving a lorry, so how does one go about qualifying to drive one of these things.

I'm considering a career change.

I love how the article basically says, 'yes, the truckers did get a fabulous pay rise BUT please don't anyone else ask for one'

splendid.

How can Mr Darling say that the 'deal' is in keeping with the government inflationary target when his colleague Jacqui Smith reneged on a Tribunal decision to award Police Officers 2.5% and in fact awarded 1.9%.

Yes but they won't ask for a pay rise - they'll just get one.

They do need to redecorate their flats you know

Me too.

If I'd know the pay they get I wouldn't have spent time studying to become an accountant.

That's not actually 'pay' that's 'expenses'.

Re: How do you train to be a tanker driver

Yep you got me.

But i'm sure they add it up to calculate their total income !
Pay / expenses - all the same thing - money in their pockets

Re: How do you train to be a tanker driver

To be honest, I'm not surprised by the wages they earn.

I've known quite a few lorry drivers and they have always earned good money....a good friend of mine regulary clears £700 a week (and he doesn't drive a tanker).

Would I do his job?....not a chance.

Re: How do you train to be a tanker driver

Qualifying is easy - take your HGV1 test.

But don't expect to get straight out there on the big bucks! I've got two friends with HGV1 licences and neither can find enough work to be able to leave their current jobs! Seems no companies are hiring drivers without expirience, and the only work you can get with little to no experience is agency work - and that doesn't pay anywhere near that. Add into that no medial/sick pay, no holiday pay, no pension etc....

So it isn't as cut n dry as it seems
