Hedges take years to grow, unless you have lots of money to buy lots of bushes and plant them close together.
Sounds like you need a fence and a gate. |

doodles | You spend too much time on these forums. Plants need to be planted not installed?

Would you be interested in a full-HD hedge or will you be satisfied with an HD-Ready one? |

I would go for a fence and a gate rather than a hedge. You can always choose plants to plant against the fence if you like.
I erected a fence not long ago, wasn't too much hard work (apart from when I hit a boulder digging a fence post hole). I used a special dry mix concrete to set the posts into - Dig a hole, pop the post in, fill around with this dry mix concrete, add some stabilisers to keep the post upright overnight while the concrete absorbs moisture and sets. Repeat until all posts done. Start where you want the gate obviously and work outwards - the gate is the bit to get right.
If you install a hedge you'll only have the hassle of upgrading when hedge 2.0 gets released. Then you will need to defrag it every year. Just stick with fence 1.0 it works fine when installed with gate 1.0. Make sure you add a copy of padlock 3.0 or someone will be in through your back door !

i actually thought it was illegal to plant leylandii in the uk, at least in some areas..
strongly advise looking for something else, beech is a nice hedge, copper beech looks very well..

doodles | For gate find a fence supplier as there are sevral different types with different prices on the market
Hedge quickest to grow is the Leylandii conifer which, depending on conditions, cam grow 2-3 ft a year. Best bought at 3 ft height and planted 3 ft apart, Check garden centres for prices. When it gets to desire height , say 7 ft you MUST trim it yearly otherwise they get way out of hand and can grow to 80 ft or more
There are many other hedging plants depending on choice are plante in twpo rows staggered 1' -18"apart. See what takes your fancy at garden ctr.suitable hedging plants:
Griselinia
Berberis
Privet
Hawthorn
blackthorn
Laurel
Bay
Box( small hedge)
Shrubby honeysuckle
Pyrocantha
to name but a few
Soil preparation vital .Dig a trench 2- 3 ft wide fork in plenty of organic matter and water well before planting. Keep weeds at bay until well established

How do you rate Thuja LGS? My parents had a thuja hedge "installed" to replace a privet hedge that died from Honey fungus and it certainly seems to be the business.

I have about 100 foot of Leylandii hedge that is about 8 foot high and needs about 4 cuts a year to keep it looking neat and tidy.
I purchased them mail order and they were about the size of tomato plants, I planted them 3 foot apart and about 3-4 years later I had a hedge that cost me £20.00.
It is now 13 years old and looks great all squared off.
