Blair for Pope

Given it looks like he isn't going to get the EU presidency, Tony seems to be lining himself up for Pope now

Blair 'to devote life to faith'

Former prime minister Tony Blair has promised to "spend the rest of my life" uniting the world's religions

He said faith could be a "civilising force in globalisation", bringing people together to solve problems such as malaria and extreme poverty.

He is launching a "faith foundation" in New York on Friday.

Mr Blair, who recently converted to Catholicism, said: "Faith is part of our future, and faith and the values it brings with it are an essential part of making globalisation work."

Re: Blair for Pope

If he really wants a challenge, he could try and restore the nations faith in Gordon Brown, but that may be a bridge to far - even for walk on water Tony!

If it happened, I for one, wouldn't believe his gospel!

Re: Blair for Pope

I haven't checked recently, but I do seem to recall most of the major religions think it's not really accepted to bomb and kill tens of thousands of innocent people.

God doesn't like it

Re: Blair for Pope

"He is launching a "faith foundation" in New York on Friday.
One of its first priorities will be to fight the spread of malaria."

Mr Blair said: "If you got churches and mosques and those of the Jewish faith working together to provide the bed nets that are necessary to eliminate malaria, what a fantastic thing that would be.

"That would show faith in action, it would show the importance of cooperation between faiths, and it would show what faith can do for progress."

.............. if you got 'people' to get together ....... why does faith have to be involved ?
You don't need faith to be good and charitable, one of the largest charitable donations of all time, $37 billion, was donated by an atheist.

He probably believes he is offsetting the 100,000's of deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan that he is ulitmately to blame with along with George Bush, so he can get a nice cushy place in heaven.

What a bloody loon.

Re: Blair for Pope

I'm sure he caused a bit of a stink a few years back when he was asked about Religion .He said "there's no room for God at number 10". God squad went mad at him

I don't know why I'm so surprised, i think his ego is bigger than his commitment .

Right that's enough of that , wheres the funny threads

Well it does rather sound like Tony is trying to atone for his sins doesn't it?

its how to people interpret their religeous books scrolls etc. im not going in to detail you could go into year long debates a simple example is the muslims follow what the koran says now muslims also follow the ten commandments which as we all should know says thou shall not kill so why are they killing for their religeon thats because the koran also says an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth meaning if their people are killed they should kill the killers so they interpret the koran in a peaceful or in a way to strike fear into others an we know how the extremeists have interpreted it.

The Catholic Church might have a better record of halting the spread of Malaria in Africa.

I seem to remember that they are not in favour of stopping the spread of HIV by promoting contraception in Africa!

It must be nice to pick and choose who you help depending upon your beliefs...

Great Tony, just what we need, another self righteous demagogue who thinks he's without reproach.

Re: Blair for Pope

So his wife got him to be a Catholic though she uses contraceptive equipment and the pope gave Blair a dressing down over Iraq, abortion and stem cells.

Is this just some more spin?
