So is this a wind-up??

Blog articles:

I can't help but think that this is a wind up but if it isn't I think I'm freaked out.

Discuss.

Exclamation Re: So is this a wind-up??

Hi,

Either that's the most disturbing true piece of marketing I've ever seen, or it's one hell of a clever wind-up. I'd like to think it is a wind-up... God knows what it would mean, if it were true.

Also, I note that the video in the BotJunkie link, has a mysterious male investor discuss the project, under the name of David P. However, look to the right side of the site, and you'll see "Managing Editor: David Ponce"!

I think this is a very clever wind-up, but for what, I have no idea, because I don't believe that anyone can create an AI machine that good, and certainly not mass-market it to end-users for a reasonable sum of money. It would cost customers millions to buy one of these things! Wouldn't it?!

Give me a proper, human female companion any day of the week, not some AI device.

Re: So is this a wind-up??

Yes it's a wind up! Robotics at this stage are just not sophisticated enough to produce one of these Stepford Wife drones. But one day in around 20-30 years it will be possible to produce a human cyborg that could replicate a real person exactly!

Re: So is this a wind-up??

I can't see how a robot woman will be able to cook a meal. Also the 'robot' looks a little like a woman with some glycerine or something on her skin to give it a shine.

Not to be cynical...that's exactly what I noticed too.

The over-enthusiastic STUDENTS didn't give it much credence either. Students? Not Panasonic, Sony, Honda or another well-developed robotics manufacture but a couple of students? Give me a break...

Well if students have programmed her to cook it will just be pot noodles and opening a can of lidl beans...

Re: So is this a wind-up??

It's only recently that the Japanese have had the Asimo robot that walks up stairs without support.

The guy on the website who says he can't live without her sounds like Eric Cartman.
"God damit, I love her."

Re: So is this a wind-up??

Very elaborate windup, but we are nowhere near close to producing anything even remote close to that level of robotics.

Re: So is this a wind-up??

OK, admittedly I was quite selective in my clip, but if this is what Asimo can do:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASoCJTYgYB0&NR=1

do you still think the original 'robots' are possible?

This one looks quite similar but no where near as advanced.

Re: So is this a wind-up??

I cant belive anyone would think this was real, its obivisly a wind up or viral marketing. Its its a straight up viral then its probably for the new terminator TV series or movie.

wasn't there some similar wind-up/viral marketing/"performance art" project concerning some sort of designer pet or alien thingy grown in labs? ... and was posted on GC about a year ago
