Need a pic of you looking smart!

Can anyone help, i'm going to a wedding and dont want to wear a suit, so i am thinking smart trousers, black designer shirt which is short in length so i dont have to tuck it in and a bright tie (probably pink).

My family dont sound impressed so anyone got a pic of themselves wearing something similar to show them?

Re: Need a pick of you looking smart!

Might just be me, but a black shirt (not tucked in) with a pink tie would not look that smart at a wedding.

I'm not saying you need to wear a suit, just don't think your choice is very appropriate.

Go on....buy yourself a proper dress shirt.

Re: Need a pick of you looking smart!

I was a guest at my brothers wedding recently, and was looking for a more 'informal' look. I went for black loafers, grey trousers, white shirt, grey/black/white tie and a black v-neck jumper.

It looked quite smart, but not overly formal. I felt comfortable too.

You're going to a wedding, not on a date with Graham Norton.

Put your pride to one side for one day and do as they say!

Re: Need a pick of you looking smart!

i would say either suck it up and wear the suit or wear a waistcoat with a nice tie. Nice grey waistcoat with accompanying shirt and red tie looks very smart imo. Whose wedding is it, if its someone close to you that you know well then look smart, I wouldnt be so concerned if its just some extended family or friends you dont really know. Make sure you tuck your shirt in though, no excuses for not doing that.

Re: Need a pick of you looking smart!

I dont think I would have been too impressed if someone turned up at my wedding without even tucking their shirt in. Get yourself into a nice suit and enjoy the day.
Remember you are a guest at their wedding (that has cost them a LOT of money) so dont do anything that would upset them in any way.
After a few glasses of wine and a couple of beers you wont care what you are wearing anyway.

black short shirt and pink tie, doesn't sound too smart, it's a wedding so you want to look smart in the photos.

Got to agree with the others I'm afraid. You might not care much about the photos but you can be sure the couple do!
Get a suit on and enjoy the free booze- its small price to pay!

How often do you get a chance to dress up anyway? Also the photos taken on the day will be looked at for years to come. Wear a suit.

Re: Need a pick of you looking smart!

Why bother getting dressed at all.... go in your jammies and be done with it.

pink tie - someone's in touch with his feminine side !

Suit is the way to go I am afraid - as the day goes on and the crowd get more drunk, you can lose the tie and loosen the collar, but a lady always notices a man in a nice suit over a guy who looks like they can't be bothered to wear one for a wedding. If you are looking to pull - go with the suit

Re: Need a pick of you looking smart!

Well, as it happens, I was at a wedding today.

My young cousin is about your age and decided to ditch the tie, but wore a pinstripe suit and rather nice shirt, but I think he was the only one who'd dressed down even that far.

If you're only invited to the evening do, smart casual is fine. If you're going to the main event though, and will be in the photos etc, you'll look (and feel) well out of place without a suit. (ie will probably be the only male over the age of 14 not wearing one).

Let's put it this way, 'no suit' lumps you in with the little kids running around causing trouble, and will limit your bridesmaid pulling power enormously

Re: Need a pick of you looking smart!

Suits arent for everyoneIf you dont want to be a sheep wear what you like within reason. The last wedding went to I was dressed in beige linen trousers, light brown check jacket, white collarless shirt and no tie.

Times are changing and things are getting less formal ,thankfully.I went to my sisters funeral last year in Spain and notices most people arrived wearing jeans / t shirts and the like - including her son. My God daughter's wedding next year is apparently going to very informal as wellso I may turn up in my Marks and Spencers jeans

Re: Need a pick of you looking smart!

Check with the bride as to what she feels will be acceptable, it's her day.

It's quite common nowdays to omit the jacket , you can look very smart without and then your only into a tie removal for the after do.

Bottom line, ideally she won't want a rag tag army of eclectic looking guests, you need to do what's right for them not you.

Suit sans jacket is safest and really isn't much of a hardship.

Having said that have been to registry based weddings in less formal but it was specifically specified by the couple that informal was the key.
