Stopping cats pooing in my front garden

My next doors neighbors cats keep pooing in my front garden. Was told as it was the grass was to long so i mowed the lawn and hey presto cat poo the next morning.
I have tried a spray that B&Q do but you have to keep spraying every 12-13 days and too be really hones i dont think it works in the 0-11 days in the 1st place as i still see poo.
Have looked at sonars but not sure about the distance they reach and i dont want the sonar stopping them from reaching their home !

Re: Stopping cats pooing in my front garden

I use clear plastic bottles filled with water, and place them around the flower beds....has done the trick for me.

Used to have a neighbours cat come in and leave its mess in the beds but no more. Not sure how it works, but was told that the cat see's it's relection in the bottle or something like that.

Re: Stopping cats pooing in my front garden

Who agrees....

I'm having a problem with a cat. At least I assume it's a cat since I've never actually seen it. The cat uses my yard and garden as its toilet. This, by itself is not a serious matter; I clean detritus out of my yard regularly as a matter of course. The real problem is that my young children, who love to play in the yard and putter in the garden, always run afoul of the cat's mess if I haven't cleaned it up first. So, every morning I must police my yard and garden for signs of the cat's nightly visit and clean up after it. Oftentimes, I must be away from home on business and there is no one to perform this duty. So my kids stay inside or go outside and get fouled.

Recently, I've been considering a solution to this problem. A permanent solution. I'm not a cat hater. I've had and enjoyed several cats as pets. I don't wish upon this cat any painful punishment or cruel revenge. I don't know whose cat it is, whether it even has a home and is loved or is left to its own devices. I simply want it to disappear and can certainly arrange it. I was raised in a semi-rural environment where we had livestock, which we even played with and petted, but which also eventually were slaughtered and eaten. Killing animals that we had raised seemed perfectly natural and was the practical conclusion to the endeavor. When our pet dogs or cats were seriously ill, grievously injured or simply became too numerous, we shed our tears and then sent them to their reward without the services of a veterinarian or animal shelter. This solution to my cat problem seems perfectly reasonable to me, akin to the fate dealt to gophers, rats and other living nuisances. On the other hand, I realize a cat's difference; people increasingly put great store in their pets, considering them to be family members in every regard. What I consider to be a reasonable solution will surely be considered an immoral crime by others.

I've tried many other alternatives. There are pages and pages of recommendations on using this type of fruit peel or that type of noxious repellent, many that are little better than the mess left by the cat, and none of which has had any effect. There are even sophisticated fences and motion-activated sprinklers that I can't bring myself to consider due to the time and cost alone. I might even attempt to find the owners, confront them with the problem and ask them to find some solution, under the assumption that they bear primary responsibility for managing the waste of their own pets, not me. I imagine, though, that what is so hateful to me is considered unavoidable and uncontrollable cat nature to the owner, who would thereafter brand me as a cat-hating lunatic.

With my solution, no one need be the wiser. Only I would know what really happened and personally I am comfortable with the proceedings. The owners certainly would be sad to lose their pet, and I would regret that, but it would be a mystery as far as they were concerned, just as if the cat were hit by a car, fell from a tree or ate some poisonous plant; all risks that they currently tolerate anyway to indulge the nature of their free-ranging cat. It doesn't seem that bad to me. Expressing that feeling to others, however, generates expressions of shock and horror, and a certainty in the mind of the hearer that I am some kind of sadistic psychopath. I'm not sadistic about it at all. It all sounds quite reasonable to me. I don't feel like a psychopath. So the question is, first, am I a psychopath? Secondly, what do I do about the cat?

Some solutions here

They kids could end up blind though if the cat has worms and I think that Toxoplasmosis is a risk to young children plus why should he have to clean up after somebody else's cat? I'm a bit of a cat hater myself for the reasons mentioned but even so you can't just kill somebody's pet.

Re: Stopping cats pooing in my front garden

I wonder how many kids a year go blind from this...... Must be a stat somewhere surely!

Cats usually bury their business anyway so how much cleaning up is really involved?

So you hate cats because they crap in gardens, sweet!

Dogs crap way more than cats and dont care where they do it. Cats usually bury it and usually select somewhere out of the way (note the use of the word usually!!)

They don't just bury it they make a mess of the surrounding area whilst doing so which then requires cleaning up and any gardening work on flowerbeds etc now has to be done wearing gloves because of all of the cat mess present.

I didn't choose to own a cat and yet I'm having to clean up after it? Seems to me the owners get most of the fun whilst the neighbours get all of the crap jobs, literally.

I don't know how many kids go blind or get ill from cat crap but if I had kids myself I'd prefer not to task the risk especially if I'd decided not to keep cats myself.

Re: Stopping cats pooing in my front garden

Best way, get a cat yourself, a big tom cat a poke it with sticks to make it mean

Cats are territorial, they defend there own ground from other cats and normally don't poo in there own area either.

One of my cats regularly claws the neighbours German Shepard on the nose and eyes and its become very wary of it. (lovely dog as well )

Dogs wont stop them since the cat will love to sit out of range of the dog and make it bark for 10 hours straight then poo when its gone (jack russels might work as there psychopathic but they can yap alot)

I bought one of the £30 from Homebase jobbies and it's absolutely hopeless as it doesn't scare the cats away at all and is set off by any movement including flowers waving in the breeze or washinh on the line. It's also supposed to be inaudible to humans but it most certainly isn't.

Re: Stopping cats pooing in my front garden

i see little point trying to bring dogs into the discussion because i'm sure i'm not alone among forum members who do not allow their dog to wander and dump on other peoples property!

and my dog is exercised on private land so bags/picking up are not relevant

what annoys me about cats in my personal 'case' is that i had all my gardens hard landscaped with gravel etc

and the silly female next door now tells me she no longer needs her cats to have a litter tray - how ACCEPTABLE is that

cat owners just don't seen to get the point that others find it totally unacceptable when their cats use others gardens as a REGULAR dumping ground!!!!

Re: Stopping cats pooing in my front garden

Yes makes me damn annoyed a guy at work said their friends neighbour [the cat owner] removed the sonic device they had bought to scare cat away. Please note the statement posted was not me just someone a little bit more annoyed than myself..the daft game joking a side had a link at end which was quite upsetting showing a cat owner [sicko] filming it playing with a tiny bunny..My point is that the cat knows no better but the owners are the problem..so its back to cat repellent at £5 a tub for me

Re: Stopping cats pooing in my front garden

My neighbour threatened to drown mine ,i think the conversation ended when i said i may use his head as a football in retaliation ,and no i'm not joking .My neighbours dog is giddy ,nosey and noisey ,lets face it this kind of problem must be going on all over the land .

I now keep mine in, as i lost one and the other has only 3 legs ,and we don't even live near a busy road .

People just don't want to live and let live ,all pets at the end of the day are animals and they do things which they do naturally ,but unfortunatly some folks just like to moan.

yes but if people proved litter trays for 'kitty' it would at least in some small portion stop them dumping anywhere else?

my mum and dad have a cat AND a litter tray - although she has nearly 1 acre of land she always uses the tray!

what annoys me is that cat owners don't care when the **** is not on their own 'doorstep'?

random psychotic behaviour?

- that seems to be your problem

as i said in a post you conveniently ignored - responsible dog owners clear up the 'deposits'

but now you bring psychotic behaviour and 'noise' into the equation - typical cat owner (not all)

as your from Halifax you should well know that nobody lets their dog out of sight for fear they will end up on somebodies dinner table - LOL!!
