southparkzone.com

So there I was last night; 6 or so pints down me coming into my house. I put on my computer and want to watch something funny. South park is the obvious choice as it's one of the best shows around, go to southparkzone.com and I find it does not exist anymore!!

What's up with that??

MOD COMMENT -

unless the sites are 100% legit in the uk, and you can post evidence of this, please don't post any media links on this site

the reason the sites are no longer available is perhaps because they weren't legal

i couldn't verify the legality of the sites posted, thus the links have been removed. certainly one of them had torrent links of officially released material which doesn't appear to be legit

any other links which aren't official will be deleted and may lead to the thread being deleted completely

please also note that it's against forum policy to ask for access to illegally download copywritten material

Ordinarily you are right

However it (possible) does not apply to southpark as many years ago Matt and Tray gave permission for internet sharing. This is why they all the episodes will be free to air from there web site and soon to the UK.

However the page from the southpark studios from 2003 which stated this has been removed when the new website (recently) went live so I cant back it up

apart from this posted on southparkx which has no illegal content

Is Downloading Legal

Q. Is downloading these Episodes legal?

Matt and Trey do not mind when fans download their episodes off the Internet; they feel that it’s good when people watch the show no matter how they do it.

Note: This is official. Posted on the South Park Studios FAQ August 2003.

whilst they might not mind, it doesn't mean it's legal. other artists have announced that they don't mind works being shared (ie. live recordings), but the record companies and studios that own the copywrite do mind (ie. emi making fansites remove radiohead mp3s although the band linked to those sites from their official site, and made comments during shows like "here is a new song, you can get it from the internet tomorrow")

of course

its a grey area, i do believe that they own the final copyright hence it will be free for everyone from there website once the technicality's are sorted.

I am not disputing the removal of the links thou, rather discussing this particular and interesting approach to the net and copyright of this particular copyright holder.

usually material is licensed from one company to another, such as southpark limited/copy to universal limited/corp, and the terms of that agreement are that the record company/distributer has the sole rights for distribution. you might notice that the copywrite on dvds is held by the distributer rather than the artist/director/writer

as such the artist/creators/etc aren't normally legally free to distribute the works if they otherwise has a distribution deal, as no doubt southpark has with the tv studios. the studios wouldn't pay so much for the shows or rights to sell dvds if the artists/creators were able to distribute themselves by other means

Re: southparkzone.com

just google south park episodes online and you should find 2 links on the first page where you can watch every episode of every series. I'd post them here but they'd just get removed.
