Suddenly dawned on me how right wing I am...

This is more of a rant that anything, but I am 24 year old. I work hard, 45-50 hours per week on average, I got married 2 years ago after saving up since I was 20 (£15,000). My wife (also 24) is radiographer and between us we earn about £40,000 per year, we recently bought a new house £170,000.

I've outlined my current financial position just so that people get an idea that I have worked hard to get where I am and am proud of what I have achieved.

What really gets my goat though is the fact that I work extremely hard every day to provide a better life for me and my family yet I feel like every penny of my hard earned cash gets taken away from me and given to scroats without a job who don't care about anything. In my job I reguarly see financial statements from the "deprived" who are getting £1100 per month in benefits. That's my take home salary after tax and they get it for doing nothing, not one thing bar sitting on their lazy fat arses. Now I know a lot of you will think this guys got a real chip on his shoulder, well yes I have!

I pay £110 council tax, £300 road tax, £30 a week in petrol tax, £450 tax on my salary, tax on everything I do and to be perfectly honest i'm absolutely sick of it.

I know there are legitimate cases of where people can't work and blah'd, blah'd blah but i'm talking about the ones which don't care, but not just them, the mentally inempt people you meet on a night out who are only interested in having a brawl, foreigners who come in the country and invite their extended famililies here. I know this is just the tip of the iceberg and i don't even know why i'm posting this, probably because I think that i'm working my arse off every day getting screwed over by alistair darling and quite frankly he can **** off.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhh i feel better now

Have I just opened DailyMail.co.uk

Have you noticed when its warm weather the same people sit outside the same pubs day after day. Thats your money they are drinking with you know...

Sometimes they feel the need to top up their payments by committing crimes. They break into your house, steal your money. The police go hunting them - using more of your money, they go through the prosecution service, using your money, get sent to prison, using your money, get released and start it all over again...

But are they happy ?

They don't go to prison anymore, they get a fine that they don't have to pay instead.

I think many can empathise with most (if not all) of what you're saying, there seems to be a growing unrest within the British public, we are an extremely tolerant society but people can only put up with so much for so long.

I think we are living in interesting times and if/when the economy collapses, things could start turning ugly.

I tend not to think about it as it will really get you down.

I fluctuate between anger and getting on with life. Focus on what you can change in your own life and try not to get angry at things you can't i.e goverment, other people's mentality, health care.

Things are definitely not right in this country and something has to snap one day but until that day have a smile, live your life and try and enjoy it otherwise you will end up bitter and twisted.

Thought that myself.

Emma gets a grand total of £950 deductions a month from her salary once you include her student loan, £720 of which is Tax & NI. Unbelievable, to think what I could do with even half of that a month let alone the full amount

I bought my first house with Emma when I was 21, we renovated it inside 18 months, then sold it, made a tidy profit .

I suppose it's not the scroats fault that they get given everything for free, it's society & government that feels it socially acceptable to help them have 8 kids by the age of 17. I also believe the government use these benefits as a kind of silent policing to stop scroats from nicking things from those of us who actually want to achieve something in life.

By my calculations Emma earns about £32400 per year (based upon £720 per month tax/NI). You must therefore earn approx £7500 per year and you complain about scroungers. Poor Emma

Martin

EDIT: you say you take home £1100 which is approx £16800 per year gross. That makes your joint income nearly £50k and not £40k????????? You sure Emma pays £720 per month in tax/NI??Could include tax on Company Cars etc though I suppose??

Actually i think the majority of the police force do the best they can with the resources available. It's the mountains of paperwork and the useless CPS that is the problem

True enough, but the resources just aren't there to do a proper job. More money for policing, now THAT's rightwing!

i presume he is talking about an annual net income of £40k, which would be about £17k pa gross or £13000k nett, thus the remaining £27k nett would be a salary of about £38k gross (all figures very rough!) which would explain why the student loan repayments are so high, thus a combined gross income of about £55k pa, which isn't bad at all

i think what the op is missing out is those who are getting £1100 in benefits probably have that as a combined income for the whole family for the month, to pay all the bills including rent and council tax (albeit at reduced rate) etc, and presumably two adults plus children to feed and clothe and look after. they probably wouldn't have much left to spend after the £40 a month direct debit to sky

Re: Suddenly dawned on me how right wing I am...

My pet peeve is just lack of disposable income. I have the same these days earning decent money as when I was starting out earning less than I pay in tax these days (just scared myself working that one out!). Thats being a middle earner I guess. Too much for tax credits etc, but not enough to have some spare. I have no idea how these people on relocation, relocation can afford million pound houses and they are quite young!

I don't begrudge people on benefits. Well, I begrudge scroungers, but its not for me to judge, and TV/papers will dredge up the ones fiddling the system as it wouldn't be newsworthy if they showed normal people trying to make do.

But I do agree with the basic welfare system. It seems foolish to criticise it just because you don't need it - yet. Its a safety net and if you ever fell from where you are now, you'd probably be glad its there. Its never nice to pay money for something you don't use, but I suppose you have buildings/contents insurance?

anyway, my wife does the right wing thing for us. Ever want to start an argument in our house, just bring up immigrants. Which is funny as she is one too. But of course she's a 'good' one, whatever that is

I must admit that the opening post brought a smile to my lips as I read how the poster begrudged paying all that tax. The amusing part is that he is 24 and has therefore been working and contributing to the economy for a maximum of six years.

Just wait until he has been contributing for as long as some of us oldies here and then he may have a justifiable complaint

Re: Suddenly dawned on me how right wing I am...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the basic problem is that the majority of people in this country simply aren't paid enough to be able to enjoy a decent standard of living without having to resort to credit. For the last 3 years I haven't had access to any kind of credit whatsoever, living from one month to the next on what me and my wife earn, and believe me even on a combined income of £45k it's a real struggle to make ends meet. We haven't had a holiday since 2004 and it doesn't look like we'll have one this year either. We have no savings whatsoever, I know the main problem is the cost of our mortgage but since we're tied into a fixed rate mortgage for 3 years with a £9k redemption penalty (the cost of having to get a sub prime mortgage) and are also probably in negative equity now well we're stuck where we are for the next couple of years at least, hopefully by then things will have changed. It would be interesting for people to try living without ever having the option to resort to a credit card, personally I'm glad I'm now sort of living within my means but it means our standard of living has dropped considerably. Inevitably people will look at my list of electronic gadgets and criticise me but they're all I've got to show for 20 years of work since graduating so I think I've earned them!
I'm also fed up of spongers, I pass pubs every day when I walk into town and see the same faces outside every day ******* my taxes up the wall. At the end of the day what can you do though, you have to get on with it, although like many people my patience is wearing very thin indeed and things can't go on the way they are much longer that's for sure!

Re: Suddenly dawned on me how right wing I am...

funny but as I get older I seem to remain steadfastly left wing. I apportion most the blame for our ills on the greedy parasites in the city, the ones who have caused this latest downturn.
Yesterday i had about £800 worth equipment stolen from my truck, probably by pikies or scroats or Chavs or maybe just some petty criminals. Yeah i feel angry coz its my livelihood which is affected but I'll just have to take more care in future. Dont intend to lurch to the right though

As you describe yourself, I think you've every justification in feeling proud of what you've already achieved and angry about the things you've outlined.

A lot of the problems arose when the Tories were in power during a difficult time for our economy and a great deal of sympathy was extended to the workshy by the then lefty Labour Party who used unemployment as political capital.

The result has been that even through the good years, we've tolerated three million people on the sick and over a million young people between the ages of sixteen and twenty-five on the dole.

I'm old enough to remember when being unemployed was a stigma and not something to use to gain sympathy and maybe the pendulum needs to swing back a bit.

Before anybody accuses me of being right wing, I also think that many more of our politicians and some members of the Royal Family are at fault for failing to be better role models. This also applies to some individuals in show business and sport who have tremendous influence, particularly on the young.

That's how I felt when I read it but this is another area where society is failing to put the responsibility for wrongdoings where it belongs, on the criminals.

I blame the banks as usual! There greed = the current situation!
Always hate the banks.

28 live with partner have combined income of nearly 60K still not on property ladder but I dont care! Have my grand parents stayin at the moment and they are bitter that they have worked there whole lives saved own there house but get no help at all whilst the scroungers continue to get handouts.
Pension is a joke so savings dwindeling fast. Would be far better off if they had no house or savings.

The more I earn the more I spend to be honest see know point in looking to the future. What future!

Went out last night for a birthday do some of the people there were extremely well off and the champers and wine was flowing ended up costing a fortune alright for the ones with the bulging wallets full of cash. There was a point in this but that was two glasses of wine ago.

Anyway the way things are going I think if the right personality came a long many of us would buy into it and before you know it we would have a fascist state and we would all be royaly ****ed!

hhmm battery nearly gone better post
