Talking Don`t mess with online forums, classic example.

This is one LONG thread only 2 days old but it's everywhere now.
If you don't want to read the whole thread then there are cliff nots made by the admin of the site (The first 2 quite boxes).
EDIT: Summary also posted below)

If you DO want to read the whole thread, skip past the two quote boxes and get ready to be entertained!

http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.p...=&pagenumber=1

EDIT:
IF you don't want to go through 50+ pages here is a quick summary of what happened.

Quote:
-New member regretfully posts that his car has been stolen by someone with a fake ID that took a permanent test drive. Describes vehicle and thief.
-Thief encounters another forum member at Chinook mall, member recognizes stolen vehicle as described in this post. Snaps pictures, posts on beyond. Even in a city of 1 million people, thief is spotted within hours due to internet exposure
-Thief is found on facebook using said pictures, recognized by multiple members
-Full name, address, and workplace is found via facebook
-Multiple forum members drive to known address at 2:30am, car is parked outside. Dude peeks out the window, sees posse, gets scared.
-Car disappears at some point.
-Another member drives by later, finds car. Boxes car in, calls cops, calls rightful owner
-Hilarity ensues
-Cops show up 2 hours later, pictures and youtube video posted of stolen car, and Dr. Claw the fail car thief getting arrested
-Car is now safe at home, back up for sale, with a new test drive policy. Bonus: Thief leaves $22 in change, and a hat.

Link is passed around to virtually every forum worldwide within hours, checking in to show community support. Appears on front page of digg.com.

News story to be featured on local news tonight (CTV?)

Some quick pictures to add to the summary:

Imagine our mods in a forum like that, there'd be no members left

I know its probably not worth going 50+ pages unless you want to see all the photoshopped pictures so I've edited the first post with all details.

Hi,

That's a great story, and I'm sure that if a similar kind of scenario ever happened to an AV Forums member, that the support would be just as caring, helpful and considerate as the people at Beyond.ca's website.

Have to admit, I'd love to be a fly-on-the-wall during the trial of the car thief! That criminal's going to be the laughing-stock of the court, the law-firm that represents him, and if he ends up in prison, all the other prisoners are going to rip him to shreds, for being such a moron!

I find it oddly reassuring that young Canadian males have such a poor grasp of spelling and grammar. I thought it was just in the UK that standards of education had fallen so dramatically. A fun read, nevertheless.
