Re: State Pension Calculator

You will reach State Pension age on:06 / 07 / 2044

You will be:67 years 1 months 3 days old

You have:36 years until you reach State Pension age

You should receive your claim pack in:March 2044

trouble with private pensions is ive never been able to afford putting money aside for what at the time seems like nothing, now im at the age where if i was to start a private pension i would have to put much more aside

also the thing about putting money aside for the future is you might get run over by a bus tomorrow, what good is the money then?

if i do reach the grand old age of 67 i know i will be kicking myself not starting a pricate pension! ggrrrrr im screwed either way!

Private pension plans pay up most of the value of what you've already paid in to a nominated person if you die before claiming it.

Working until I'm 68? Will have to start a pension soon I think I actually get a decent pension working for the Government, I just don't like the idea of putting £100 a month away, especially at 22 years old

To save £100 a month you only need to put in about £60 yourself and the government tops it up. I wasn't able to afford one when I was 22 but now at 24 started a pension a few months ago.

I'll wait until I'm around 24/25 to start one I think... too much saving to do at the minute. Me and the girlfriend are going to be getting a house built next year, so that will eat away at all the money I have

Plus, need to buy myself a car, and it's creeping up to the time I propose to the girlfriend, been together 6 years now and I think she's getting impatient

On top of that she is wanting to go to either Vegas or Mexico on holiday this year. It's going to be an expensive year...

Re: State Pension Calculator

Started pension when i was 20, but i don't think they'll be worth much, by the time we come to retirement.

Premium Bonds, Income Bonds and Savings also for me.

Re: State Pension Calculator

I'm not even going to check, it will only annoy me and I won't believe it anyway. I firmly believe that by the time I am due to retire (just under 20 years) the pensions 'crisis' will have been 'solved' by so many twists and turns and cuts and increases in the age you qualify that it will be pointless. And as I live overseas, even though it's Europe, it will probably be frozen at some pathetic level. Whatever any Government may say, pensioners are an easy political target. The fear and trepidation of 10,000 Zimmer Frames marching on Downing Street.......

True, but if you're expecting to die then why would you open a pension?

You mean, Eviljohn, that you're not expecting to die? Neat trick - can I join your religion?
