Question Why is ther veg in cat food?

I've allways assumed cats were carnivores; am I wrong?

I think cat food should come with the following ingredients/flavours...

Starling
Pidgeon
Mouse
Rat
Sparrow
Gold Fish and Carp maybe, but not Tuna!

My cat just seems to leave the veg in her food. Does your cat eat the veg?

Re: Why is ther veg in cat food?

What cat food are you using? I feed both of mine tined food which seem to be just meat. I know theres veg extract in there but that would be pretty hard to leave.

She has Whiskas dry cat food, seems to prefer it over wet food. It contains little pea type bits that she just refuses to eat; they contain pea according to the ingredients. Her favourite food is raw meat though followed by cooked meat.

Anyway, I've written to Whiskas to ask them why they put veg in a carnivores food and also asked if they may ever produce the other flavours I mentioned; I know she like those.

Re: Why is ther veg in cat food?

I was pondering this same conundrum the other day
the gourmet perle I opened had pieces of carrot in it
both my cats ate it though, another flavour had peas in it.
then I thought to myself that as cats eat grass maybe the veg in the food gives them the same vitamins/minerals as grass ?

Grass helps them to vomit if they have an upset stomach or hair ball. It is recommended that you at least give your cat some wet food, its supposed to prevent arthritis in old age. This is what I have read upon and not seen for myself. We give wet cat food as there main meals and leave dry food out all the time for when they get peckish.

Re: Why is ther veg in cat food?

My cat used to love any food that was green, particularly peas and broccoli. If you ever dropped a pea on the floor she would vacuum it up in an instant; in fact once she got her head stuck trying to reach a pea that rolled under the cooker

Wet food is actually >60% water, and very poor value for money. You'd be better off giving them fresh chicken or fish.

Re: Why is ther veg in cat food?

I bought my two some of the expensive stuff from Tesco that has 50% meat (the fish ones have visible pieces of fish in them - you can see the scales). They refused to eat it Back to the cheap stuff for them!

Cheers,
Stephen

I wish I could get my cat to eat those, she just doesn't like anything unless it's in a foil pouch, no tins, no fresh meat/fish, only exception being the expensive ham from the butchers - far too spoilt.
