Thanks: Gave 24, Got 629 | quality washer/dryer required
my parents washer/dryer has broke, fortunately it still washes but it doesn't dry, so they don't need a replacement urgently, but they are looking to buy one asap before it stops washing
they want something decent with a good warranty/guarantee and were considering the likes of meile, bosh and AEG, which they believe are the best makes in that order, and from what i've read those appear to be the premium machines. they aren't loaded by any means, but my dad was prepared to spend £800-£1000 for a meile or similar if it had a 5 year+ warranty.
i don't suppose anyone knows the best places to buy these from at the best prices, or if anyone knows any good deals going around at the moment, or special offers due to start shortly? i think meile had an offer on at xmas to give 10 year warranties on certain lines, but my dad found it was 2-5 years at the moment when he was on john lewis and currys. he doesn't mind paying a bit more for a longer warranty, but not a typical high street rip off extended warranty
any input is appreciated, thanks

The dryer mechanism is pretty simple in my experience; the most likely things to fail are the blower motor brushes, which should be easy to replace...

The Miele washer dryer has unfortunately never come with a 10 year cover - that's reserved for their higher end washing machines. Miele did give a 5 year on the washer dryer until the end of November, then when they re-introduced their guarantee promos after Christmas the washer dryer was left off. The current promo period runs till the end of February, so it might be worth waiting to see if it gets included again.
Even without the guarantee, it still knocks every other washer dryer out there into a cocked hat.

Just got an e-mail from currys 25% of but you have to buy a washer and dryer seperate.
miele have some 5 and 10 year parts and labour on most of their washing machines, you can download the forms for this from their U.K. site.

so i presume meile is better than bosh then? is meile pretty much the best, apart from spending silly money?

Miele would be my choice.
I was in John Lewis the other week purchasing a Miele Fridge Freezer and saw their Washer/Dryer...it was £900 IIRC. You can extend the standard two year warranty to five years for £95 with JL too.
EDIT: Here's a useful link to it, there are lots of customer reviews too. Hope this helps.

Miele really set the bar for everyone. As far as a European-style washer-dryer goes (I.E. not a one on top of 'tother American style one) you won't find anything better. The Bosch machine is a very poor relation, and is very thirsty in comparison to the Miele, which spanks everything with regard to water consumption - worth knowing if they're on a meter.

The Miele 2008 range will be out in March, so you might want to wait for that.

Siemens make excellent stuff with 5 year warranty as standard. I've got a Siemens Washing Machine and it's excellent. My Dad is a big Miele fan and they've never gone wrong for him. So you'd be fine with either.
I've used Redhill Appliances before. Good prices and delivery is the princely sum of £1.

i didn't realise miele only do two washer/dryers, i thought there would be loads of different models. it seems that dixons are about the best price and have the option of 5 year coverplan for £189, so about £1020 delivered and installed with 5 years cover. the benefit of dixons is the fairly regular discount vouchers offering 5% or 10% off, which would made a pretty decent saving. the only concern is the quality of dixons coverplan. i presume this would be by a dixons/coverplan engineer rather than miele? as if the cover isn't of the same quality it might be better buying elsewhere
i noticed it was £999 in john lewis with only 2 year warranty, i thought they had the best deals inclusive of warranty. i wonder if they would pricematch
the question seems to be who's cover is best. if there are new models out then perhaps there will be more promotions or discounts. they had some 5 and 10 year warranties on washers on the miele site, but no washer/dryers

It can be bought from the website I supplied for just under £830. Miele offer extended warranty up to 6 years however it costs £249 for the Washer/Dryer (checked my documentation last night on the off chance ).
I'd rather have warranty with either JL or directly with Miele than Dixons any day of the week. |

JL don't usually match on warranty terms, and they almost certainly won't match Dixons as they're an online-only entity now - you might have some luck if the offer is the same in Currys. The Miele washer-dryer has a much longer shelf-life than many of their other appliances, so I don't think you'll see it change. Miele usually only change one set of appliances at the time, and they're just about to do their ovens (about time to, as they're very small, and the replacements are much bigger). Most white goods manufacturers will only do 1 or 2 washer dryers, as they're only made for the British market, so it's simply not economical for them in terms of scale to produce more. The other Miele model (ie NOT the WT2670) is a semi-integrated model, which retails for £1500-1600-ish, and offers very little extra in terms of washing options or performance - you're just paying to integrate it.
As I said, see if the extra guarantee offer is brought back in March, then decide.
