Thanks: Gave 8, Got 4 | What to bring back from Hong Kong / Shanghai
I'm off to Shanghai and Hong Kong for work at the end of next month and am wondering what sort of things I should look for that could be either a bargain or could impress my mates!
I'm already thinking of a second Wii remote but I have no idea on other gadgets etc. that would be worth a look.

Interesting suggestion - I suppose I could even try one on for size before I make a purchase.
I think my current, English wife may have something to say about that though |

Dont' Hong Kong work on the same voltage as the UK?
If so, get an av-amp and a hi-def video camera.
(Don't know about the warranty though)
I'd second that about a mail order pride but make sure she hasn't got bits that she shouldn't have as my brother-in-law went to Singapore and showed me these photographs of beautiful woman - turned out they were men.

On a more serious note
you could have some tailor made suits in Hong Kong - you can choose the style and material
I had some done a few years back on Nathan Road , the wife also had a tailor made leather coat .
Worked out pretty reasonable - also had some shirts tailor made.

Look out for the Asus Minibook, 16gb version or 32 if it's out yet.

As for buying electronics; I was surprised to see that, actually, shopping for such stuff isn't jaw-droppingly cheap - especially if you consider the addition of VAT (and perhaps duty) when you return here. Savings (if any) were going to be marginal, and possibly not worth the potential risks of warranty and consumer protection benefits we enjoy when buying here.

And never pay the price on the label, when I was there they put the jewelry shops next to the gaget shops so they alway had the male and female shops together. Also there was someone by the door asking you to look, and it did not matter what currency you had they would convert there in the shop. The shops were open till a 5am. Where are you stopping on the Island or mainland.

Jewelery is cheap over there compared to UK. Chow tai Fook is a good chain. Also expect to do some serious haggling over there.
