someone give me a quick solve of a puzzle i cant do it

i have 3 tankards
the first tankard holds 16 gallons and is full of ale
the second tankard holds 9 gallons and is empty
the 3rd tankard holds 7 gallons and is empty
i need to get the 16 gallon tankard and the 9 gallon tankard holding exactly 8 gallons

has had me stumped for around 45 mins now

Transfer 8 gallons from the first into the second tankard.

The first will now have only 8 gallons left, while the second will be 8 gallons full. The third will be still empty.

I think you were making the puzzle more difficult than what it really is. It helps if you draw a diagram on paper if you get stuck.

Fill the 7 gallon from the 16 gallon
fill the 9 gallon with the seven gallon
take 1 from the 16 which now has 9 in it and tip it into the 9 then tip the seven gallon into the 9

i cant just transfer 8 gallons into a 9 gal tankard as it will fill to 9 leaving me with 7 gal in the first one and 9 in the second tried the paper route to thanks though keep trying for me
i even had die hard 3 out as there is a part where they fill water jugs up to disarm a bomb in a park

cant just take 1 gallon though as when i top up the second tankard it fills it up so i have put 2 gallons in instead of 1

you have to be specific how do you know there is 8 gallons in the second tankard its just guess work for all you know you could have 8and a quarter not 8 dead on

Ok sorry this is not as simple as I thought originally. You obviously have to use the 7 gallon tankard to help measure out 8 gallons exactly. Got It!

i have done it i have no clue how i did it im afraid its a game on the nintendo ds called profeesor layton and the curious village excellent game and a good ol brain teaser game not like these train your brain games well owrth a look

OK, this is a bit long winded, and I am sure it can be done in a shorter way, but....

Pour the 16 into the 7 (leaving 9 - 0 - 7)
Pour the 7 into the 9 (leaving 9 - 7 - 0)
Pour the 9 into the 7 (leavng 2 - 7 - 7)
Pour the 7 into the 9 (leaving 2 - 9 - 5)
Pour the 9 into the 16 (leaving 11 - 0 -5)
Pour the 7 into the 9 (leaving 11 - 5 - 0)
Pour the 16 into the 7 (leaving 4 - 5 - 7)
Pour the 7 into the 9 (leaving 4 - 9 - 3)
Pour the 9 into the 16 (leaving 13 - 0 - 3)
Pour the 7 into the 9 (leaving 13 - 3 - 0)
Pour the 16 into the 7 (leaving 6 - 3 - 7)
