Sky and the Environment

I switched to Sky Talk in December as a means to getting Sky HD for £100 and received my first telephone bill last Thursday along with a letter from Sky stating “more and more people are trying to do their bit to protect the environment and here at Sky we’re no different. One of the ways that we’d like to help with this is to stop sending you paper copies of Sky statements in the post. In the past you may have elected to receive a paper statement, however we now believe the time is right for change.”

All highly commendable.

Today I received my monthly bundle of junk from Sky which every month for the past seven or eight years has gone straight into the bin unopened but this time I thought that I would open up the package to see exactly what it was that the new caring environmentally aware Sky were sending me.

1) 76 page glossy Sky Mag
2) 56 page glossy Sky Movies mag
3) 44 page glossy Sky Sports mag
4) 36 page Sky Kids mag
5) Single sheet advertising flyer from a mobile phone company
6) Single sheet advertising flyer from Alliance & Leicester

They must think that we’re all stooooopid

Too true Ian....all of these companies hop on the 'buzzword' bandwagon and then look completely daft with their relentless marketing/sales drive that contradicts the initial message.

Re: Sky and the Environment

They do produce an awful amount of junk mail. Bit like the NSPCC who despite a regular donation persist in writing to me begging for money. Stop wasting my money begging me for more

Alot of companies are now looking to reduce their carbon footprint and not all are linked to cost savings. It actually costs alot of money to foster some of the initiatives out there

Re: Sky and the Environment

Just opt out of mailings, I don't get anything from them. I have the epg and I can use that and also anytime has a whats on section. They have most of the stuff on the website if you want to have a look, but I don't use that either.

They should make mailings like this as an opt in service and as default send nothing IMO

But then Sky might say that they sent it in one go, in a way that saved something

The guide and the site are frankly tom tit though. We constantly ear mark things in the guide then go to planner it up to find it's not there

Re: Sky and the Environment

I asked the buggers to take my name off of their mailing list (ex customer). It took them the best part of two years to stop the crap coming through the letterbox.

Unfortunately they still send undressed mail (household deliveries) frequently. In fact today I had four leaflets from Sky put through the letterbox alongside some company offering a wall clock if I booked my funeral with them in advance.
