alternatives to Royal Mail next day service?

Hi

Just had to rma a motherboard back to a company, and unfortunately it was over Royal Mail's magic 2kg barrier, meaning it would have cost a whoppiing £19.45 for next day. Had it been 2kg or less, it would have been £7.75 - how stupid is that. So anyway, had to go with their standard parcel service [shudder] as 1st class cannot have extra insurance (yet more RM inflexibilty)

So, a bit late for this time, but are there any good and cost effective next day services out there, offering the same thing as Royal Mail special delivery, for joe public?.

I use Russell Piper's service (Chesterpost) for anything over 2kgs. Check out the full T&Cs though as some items are not insured, notably laptops & monitors/TVs.

PM him nicely & you may even get an AVF discount code.

Is there a way of tracking deliveries online through Chesterpost?

I think he sub contracts (or used to) to Parcel Force so you would use their tracking system.

Re: alternatives to Royal Mail next day service?

You should never buy a motherboard off the internet, way too delicate.., 2KG is pretty heavy for the board, but you could try Parcel2go.com, 2-3 day delivery is fine if it's an RMA, just ram loads of bubble wrap around the mobo box and place that in another cardboard box..
