Just thought I would share this with you..

I am an aspiring musician and last night I finished my first song, funnily enough its about Christmas. Its goes something like this.....

It's Christmastime
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmastime

But say a prayer

Pray for the other ones
At Christmastime it's hard, but when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging
chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
(Oooh) Where nothing ever grows
No rain nor rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

(Here's to you) raise a glass for everyone
(Here's to them) underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Feed the world
Feed the world

Feed the world

Let them know it's Christmastime again

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again

repeat then fade

DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME
It's Christmas time; there's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmastime
But say a prayer to pray for the other ones
At Christmastime

It's hard, but when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears

And the Christmas bells that ring there
Are the clanging chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you
And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime

The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
Oh, where nothing ever grows, no rain or rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Here's to you, raise a glass for ev'ryone
Here's to them, underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Feed the world
Feed the world

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again
Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again

What do you think? Thoughts positive or negative welcome.

Thats absolutely fantastic and so original....An idear, maybe you could get a load of different pop stars to sing a few lines each, then all of them sing that snappy chorus of yours. Instant hit

Good point Mr Mabo, I have changed the lyrics now to read "will"

I agree - it doesn't really have much soul behind it - it's just a bugglegum meaningless piece of nonsense that I can imagine the likes of the cheekie girls getting to number 78.

Re: Just thought I would share this with you..

Who do you refer to when you say 'throw your arms around the world at Christmastime'? For the person to able to do that he must be at least 25000km tall. Isn't it a bit unrealistic?

Its a thing called a "metaphor"

Metaphors are comparisons that show how two things that are not alike in most ways are similar in one important way

I know what your on about, sounds more like an eighties tune to me, Chui I think youve probably missed the boat. Unless you can get 50 cent or someone to talk over it. Just an idea to bring it up to date.

And just a quick tip to avoid unrivalled abuse from the PC brigade ... I would definitely remove the line ...

"and tonight thank god its them instead of you ..... "

Re: Just thought I would share this with you..

Ive decided to write my own christmas song, this is it so far :

Light the lights, ring the chimes
come on in its party time
raise a glass for old lang syne
come on and rock it up for all mankind
good to see friends i know
kissin' under the mistletoe
i love to hear the children sing
it looks like santa's gonna' bring...

(another rock and roll christmas)
another christmas rock and roll

Personally I think its going well

Re: Just thought I would share this with you..

"It's Christmastime
There's no need to be afraid"

On the contrary, have a look at this telling piece of literature -CLICKY.

So, in fact there is every need to be afraid at this time of year. The first 2 lines are misleading and give innocent members of our society a false sense of security. Why don't you try warbling these 2 lines with this thought in your head....89 year old Betty Shuttleworth is sitting down to her turkey and all the trimmings, she is content..nay...more than content....because, after all, "It's Christmastime and there's no need to be afraid". She is happily tucking into the stuffing when - unbeknownst to her - a local scally has hopped through her open kitchen window and has legged it with her pension monies and her microwave. She finishes the dinner then goes back into the kitchen to warm up her custard in the microwave....IT's gone!!! She discovers the open window and also the open drawer and empty purse...she starts to cry.

Not so chirpy now are you

You arty muso types cannot see beyond the next royalty cheque, all you're interested in is getting to No.1 and doing lots of illicit substances whilst dating Page 3 models. So, when you're singing your little ditty on "Saturday Superstore" - with Sarah Green and Mike Read grinning along inanely - just you think of Betty Shuttleworth and the consequences of your laissez-faire approach to poetic licence and complete disregard for real facts. I suggest you read the clicky above.

Rant over
