Bit of a science question.

OK, I am driving down the motorway at a 100 MPH, a friend is pacing me about 2 metres away from, but, next to me at a 100MPH and I want to send him something via bluetooth, would he get it, or is the signal disrupted by the air/wind between the cars?

This is a serious question and before you ask, this is a hypothetical question, I have not traveled at those speeds (my 1.2 Micra would blow up) and I have not used my phone while driving, I did it in a dream I had the other night and it got me thinking of it was actually possible!

Cheers

Re: Bit of a science question.

I imagine the same principle applies to bluetooth

http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/lin...wind_rad2.html

Wind does not have an effect on radio waves. Radio waves have a long wavelength. Wind cannot affect radio waves because the air particles associated with wind are far too small for the radio wave to bounce off of. Radio waves can only bounce off of large objects.

Re: Bit of a science question.

Just because the relative speed of the transmitter and receiver is 0MPH, has no bearing on the matter. Bluetooth, like any other electromagnetic radiation (EMR), can be disrupted by other EMR, or be dispersed by say water droplets in a storm, but having the air move at 100MPH between the transmitter and receiver won't make any difference whatsoever.

There should be no difficulty at all. The wind won't blow the electromagnetic waves away, so all that matters is the distance!

There are some more interesting questions that arise when the relative speed between both ends of a communication protocol is very large, because of doppler shift, but of course that never arises with bluetooth because you would be out of range before it could possibly matter!

Re: Bit of a science question.

I have been going down a motorway at around 80-90 listening to music being broadcasted on a friends itrip playing in the car next to us.

You need to catch them in giant solar sails to use the energy to direct an asteroid off a collision course with the Earth.

Just noticed this this morning when tuning in a station wondering what the new station was at 107.6!
