The media!! - new England manager

This is not really a Sport thread, more a dig in general about the media.

The guy Cappello (?) whatever, the Italian chappie, is persuaded to take over the job of managing the England footbal team. He holds a press conference. Fair play to the guy, he says some stuff in English and then says he will try and learn English in a month - good commitment I think.

What do the press do? Lets get stuck in - lets ignore the story about the manager, his previous sucess as a manager, what he sees as his new role will be. Let's start undermining him and grubbing around to get an "angle", any angle will do. He collects Art apprently - lets ripp the P ... (micheal ) out of him). Lets make fun of the way he said his opening statements to the press for being sliglty incorrect, Lets set him up regarding his assetion that he will learn English in a month. And boy will they test him and further undermine him when he makes some error in talking to the press, in exactly one months time. It makes my blood boil.

For the press and media its all about putting themselves at the centre and trying to create a story. Has anyone wondered WHY we had to pay him
£6.5m a year to take the job on? One reason might be that he knows that he will get treated like Sh 1T from day one by our beloved press. Only a 100% record will do and even then he is likely to be critised for his playing the wrong way or droppingsuch and such aplayer - even if the results are fine.

Had to put up with Niki Cambell on 5 live this morning going on on and on about leaing a new language in a month and peoples art collection - very drole (not). How many Brits could even attempt that learning a language in a month? as I see it the majority niether speak another language or even care to try ..so why pick on this guy. Why don't we let him get on with the job and be judged soley on his results? My thinking is that if the press had left Sven alone and concentrated on his footballing exploits he may have completed his job a whole lot better than he did - who knows where things might have gone? Here we go again.

Didn't Scolari turn down the job last time round as he didn't want to be targeted by the British media

Yes I think your right. And who can blame the guy. I know the wage seems a lot (and it is) but it may be worth paying if England could go on and win something. I'm sure the salary would be alot less if the managr was greetednicely and treated with respect at the outset. What tees me up is the constant press harrasment. And then the lame excuse. Ah yes if they put themselves in the media spotlight and want publicity themselves from time to time, then we (the press) have a right to do and treat them in any way shape or form we like e.g. News of the World setting up Lawrence Daliglio when he was England captain, or delving into the Private life of Sven and who he was "liasing" with at the time etc ..

Do as I do, ignore the media and lay in to our manager if he turns out to be a turkey, and lets support him until then(I am sure you agree with me)
