Best thing for a sore throat?

Off for my annual boys trip to Vegas in the morning (Weds) - bit of work on etc and I've had a rotten flu bug for a few days.

Those flu symptoms seem to have died down now but it's left me with a nasty sore throat.

The problem I have is that Vegas air is very dry and my sore throat will be a million times worse after a day or two.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Yeah - been guzzling orange juice this morning for the vitamin c.

I have Corsodyl mouth wash - use it every day, just doesn't seem potent enough to kill the throat bugs!

With the airport security - are mouthwashes ok if they are in your suitcase etc?

An elderly doctor used to recommend sucking ice cubes.

That was in the days before we knew that antibiotics aren't always necessary or even desirable.

Re: Best thing for a sore throat?

there's that spray stuff that you squirt directly to the back of your throat which makes it go numb straight away...works a treat!

I'm jealous...not going to Vegas until next May...

I've tried that stuff once in the past - didn't really do it for me though. Yeah not been over to Vegas for almost 2 years, then I go an get ill

Just a shame we won't be there for the Hatton fight - booked long before he decided to fight Mayweather - let alone arrange a date.

Still I imagine Vegas when Ricky is there turns into Blackpool - drunk Brits everywhere, all believing they are their local town's "prize fighters"....

Re: Best thing for a sore throat?

Vicks Chloraseptic spray is quite good, 8 paracetamol a day to reduce the inflammation, and a few tubes of lockets.

Re: Best thing for a sore throat?

If you've still got a day before you go, drink as much water as possible. I had that bug last week and shifted it quick smart by drink LOADS of water in a day.

If you can stand going to the loo every 30 minutes I've found nothing is more effective. I got rid of the sort throat in well under a day and then it was just the snot to deal with ( you all needed to know that ) A couple of my friends (who kindly passed it along) suffered for just over a week with it so don't just mask the symptoms, try to do something to get rid of it.

I was in Vegas a few years ago in April when there was some big fight on at Caesar's Palace (might have been Evander Holyfield, can't remember though), I didn't realise they were interviewing one of them outside the entrance and casually walked between interviewer and interviewee as they were recording...crapped myself when this guy as tall as a mountain starts shouting at me "what the **** do you think you're ****ing doing, ****ing idiot mother ****er...tryin' to do an interview here...you blind or somethin'"...

Makes me laugh now looking back but at the time I turned into a mouse and ran away! Anyway...try that spray stuff again, I am sure it is pretty strong these days.

I swear by this stuff:

I have been using Chloraseptic for years now and it works a treat.

This stuff is excellent for blocked noses.

Hahaha - that's brilliant. I bet there's footage somewhere out there of that!

Thanks again. Lots to try today! My sister has some "one hit" antibiotics that are for bacteria - according to her Doctor you can also drink whilst using them so I'll have that as a back-up in the morning too. (By all accounts it's the stuff that you use for the but let's not get into that)
