Best Mobile Phone Provider Covereage

Been on T mobile for several years but getting a bit fed up with poor signal coverage in our area. Just on the borders of Greater Manchester/Derbyshire.
Anyone tell me who"s generally regarded as providing the best area cover.

TIA

Re: Best Mobile Phone Provider Covereage

Not just as a telecoms engineer I can tell you that it depends upon your particular area. For example, in my local village I get a good reception but my mate on Orange is always moaning of losing his signal. Yet the very next village to us only 2 miles away it is the exact opposite. In busy town/city centres then all the providors are pretty much the same due to the amount of base stations they all have covering them.

All I could advise is to ask a friend(s) how they rate their coverage in the area's that you both regularly visit. It's no good if coverage is great everywhere except for when your in your local pub... or is it!

Re: Best Mobile Phone Provider Covereage

I've always been on Orange, Vodafone and 02 (work, personal, PAYG, etc)
- and 02 has been the only one that has had a strong signal where orange and/or Vodafone has failed ... not surprising really since it was the network formerly known as (BT) Cellnet

See thread for discussion

But all operators have coverage maps on their sites. I would go on prospective operators and postcode search

Re: Best Mobile Phone Provider Covereage

I also vote for O2, I've been with them for 7 years now (since they were BT Genie).

I'm on the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border and have never had any signal problems.

I've been with T-Mobile and Vodaphone (although many years ago) and had problems with both.

Customer Services aren't the best unless you are buying something

Another one to think about is 3; I believe (or so I have been told) that they use the O2 network when the 3 single is poor.

As already stated, it is a good idea to check the websites for coverage maps.

Re: Best Mobile Phone Provider Covereage

Thanks for the posts , I have looked at the coverage and 02 appears to give a strong signal in my local area , so am going to make enquiries with friends as suggested.

If I could find a local pub that had no reception for any mobile, I would make it my local

I see that the last bastion of peace and quiet - the aeroplane - could also be losing it's squawk free status soon. Let's hope that sufficient people sign the various petitions like this one so that we can continue to fly in peace

Never take the phone with me when I go to local pub , always have a chuckle when I see people on phones in pub/supermarket etc talking about nothing. Sad really , but if if makes them feel good hey thats cool.

Yes, best bet is to use coverage maps. In the cities you don't really have a problem. Its only if you live in the country, you may be unfortunate to be in a isolated blackspot

Oh man don't get me started! I have paid for the quiet zone seat on my Virgin Euston > Manchester journey. At least have the courtesy to walk the 3 feet to the door into another area

Re: Best Mobile Phone Provider Covereage

Hi,

You can find our Vodafone coverage map here. Enter your post code and it will give you an idea of the coverage where you are or where you're searching for.

We're due to share 3G coverage with Orange at some point in the not too distant future which will improve coverage for everyone as we will us their 3G and they'll use ours. We'll then have the best blanket 3G coverage of all the networks. Hope this helps.

Re: Best Mobile Phone Provider Covereage

That is a useful link, the ofcom one is good for finding out which provider to go with, but that one is good for finding out which network to use if you have more than one phone...

Re: Best Mobile Phone Provider Covereage

I have a proposal on my desk from T-Mobile stating their "business mobility coverage is second to none".
