A 50 year old disaster you've never heard about

Whilst the 20 year anniversary of Chernobyl was a heavily publicised event, it would appear that a month ago the 50th anniversary of Russia's other nuclear disaster at Chelyabinsk passed through virtually unnoticed. I recall the briefest of brief mentions of this whilst at university but otherwise I was completely in the dark about it. Thankfully, the ever interesting Idleworm found an article I've linked to here. Its an interesting (if not entirely happy) read. There are no gruesome or unsafe images.
