You know these satellites above us someone said i do not know if it was in jest or not that they could see a stamp on a envelope you were holding. Anyone any idea of their actual capabilities

If i remember correctly the high detailed images on google earth are not taken by satellite but rather from a low flying aeroplane.

A glance at Google Earth will show that the image is now superimposed on a coarse background presumably for privacy. (or to make it easier to sell high res images later on)

My house and those I've previously lived in are barely recognisable. High res is still very patchy in the UK compared with elsewhere in Europe.

A free system, very similar to GE, available in Denmark, is not hampered by deliberate obscuration. Moreover it offers almost annual updates at the touch of a button to allow flipping back and forth. It measures land areas, displays official boundaries and gives ground areas related to properties. It has highly accurate latitude and longitude, altitude and contours, tells the world how much tax you pay for the property, its value, etc etc.

I presume the local councils use these images to see if anybody has put up an extension or garage without permission. Shame about the big trees!

BTW. From above most sunbathers look the same. It's called gravity.

Swastika is a symbol meaning peace and love. Just because the Nazi's adopted it, it is now generally related to far worse things!

I work in photography so hopefully can bring something good to this thread?

I'm not very knowledgeable in the field of aerial photography, but I'd imagine they shoot from quite a low altitude, and I know there are DSLRs soon to be released with the capability of shooting a 49MP image which is alot of infomation.

But i'd guess camera's made specifically for aerial photography are far more advanced, I think I saw something on the news that once said something about a camera that shoots 200GB RAW files I think a stamp on an envelope may be a tad extreme, but obviously as time goes on this becomes more and more likely

It's not uncommon, there is a formula to work it out, i.e how many MB/s are used to capture RAW footage...

Resolution*Number of Colours*Refresh Rate

so say 1920*1080*RGB24*30 interlaced frames

24bit RGB = 3bytes

[1920*1080*3*30] / 1,000,000 =178Mb/s

Wonder what Storage Medium it Uses?..
