How long is the warranty on a warranty replaced item ?

I had an electronic item replaced by DABS in it's 11th month(out of 12) because it died.
They gave me a new one rather than fix my broken one.

Do I have 1 month or 12 months left on my warranty ?

I'd suggest you may have no warranty left.

You do not get an extended warranty on the replacement item. However, i believe that your statutory rights give you a 2-year warranty. As this is perceived to be a minimum amount of time that an item should last.

Long time back Dad went to a factory in west moors near ferndown Dorset on an industrial estate The factory Belong to Strand And they were manufacturing Memorex tapes. They also had this huge bank of video recorders where they use to make the prerecorded videos you see in blockbusters and so forth. Quite interesting.

Usually, the warranty on the replaced unit will expire on the expiry date of the original warranty

However, you may be able to argue, if you have a problem, along the lines of a replacement needing to be of merchantable quality a dn lasting for a "reasonable" time

i would imagine the item, you get replaced with would still be entitled to a years manufactures warranty as its a new item. maybe not with shop as they will pass over the responsibilty after the 12th month!

it means every six months take it back to argos and get the newer model, that has just come out.

and argos give you a new receipt so its another twelve month guarantee!

yes,if you get a refund,and then get a new one,you get a new warranty.
best to ask for a new reciept when you do take items back.

i recently had the same kind of run in,with virgn megastores,about a 360,and after phoning customer services,they gave me a new one,and 12 month warranty.

It means nothing. If the thing fails, they could always argue that its lifetime was over - unless of course they meant your life time.

we have this alot at work. The item would come with a standard manufacturers warranty of 1 year.

What we normally do when replacing something right near the end of the warranty is to give the remainder of the original warranty or 3 months - whichever is the longer.

remember, as the post above to trading standards showed, there is no "law" regarding warranties or guarantees. They are just an extra offered by the manufacturer in addition to the standard provisions of the Sale of Goods act.

Unless it is very clear in the warranty small print, the manufacturer can do as they please. Standard practice seems to be not to extend the warranty beyond the original period if an item is replaced.

Pity this government opted out of the 2-year warranty that is now law in the rest of the EU. (Don't you love it? They accept all sort of stuff from Brussels we don't want, and then turn down the stuff that might actually make people like the EU)

Instead the gov said that our existing laws were already better than that . Yes, right. Trying haggling that one with a retailer once the 12 months has run out without having to at least threaten the small claims court.
