Escaping London

Hey all,

With living and working in London, I’m really keen on just escaping the crazy city on the weekends; I was hoping you guys can point out places of “Must Visit” areas, parks, town’s coast with lovely scenery and a great day out.

Thanks

Re: Escaping London

Bourton on the water is a really nice place to visit and has quite a few attractions to keep people amused for the day. The scenery in this place has to be see to be believed

It's not too far out of London either

Re: Escaping London

I'm an ex Brighton residence, and as it has quite rightly been labled 'Little London' this is not really gonna help the OP.

On your own? Wife and kids?

What about cheap flights to various European capitals. Get the board sorted boefore you go, and you can save a packet.

Late Autumn in Tuscany
Christmas shopping in Prague
Tapas / Champagne weekend in Barcalona

Now where's me passport...

Re: Escaping London

My girlfreind is from near guildford in a little village called shere..... its very picturesque with lots of tea rooms etc, there's also a village called abinger hammer which is nice. But i would also recomend going to look around dorking and reigate..... they're both old market towns, but have lots of cafes + bars, good shopping and a nice vibe to them, plus antique shops and shops of curiosities

Re: Escaping London

Hi,

I can vouch for the Poole/Swanage area as Dave mentioned. Spent many holidays/day trips down there. If camping appeals there are lots and lots of sites down there too.
We started doing more day trips last year and invested in National Trust / English Heritage memberships. Pleanty of places to visit. My personal favouites are all the castles!
