Re: The Curry Thread

Since i learnt to cook, i make all my own curries now, and they kick ass. Taste way better than the takeaways with their gallon of oil around the edges.

Re: The Curry Thread

A very hot homemade Thai Red or Green curry.

Beef curry and fried rice from the Chinese.

Indians takeaways aren't that popular here (Ireland) compared to the UK but the company I work for are based in Sutton Coldfield and there is an excellent place called Kababish. Every time I'm there I have Desi Gohst or however you spell it.........mmmmmmmmmmmm.

Re: The Curry Thread

Here is my usual :

King Prawn Puree starter Vindaloo hot

Chicken Tikka Vindaloo or Lamb Passander with Mushroom rice

Keema Nan

Washed down with a few pints of Cobra

A few years ago i used to have all of my curries phall hot, which was great when getting friends to try some of my "new" dish
The missus then got me worried about stomach ulcers after a few bouts of severe heartburn and i haven't had one since

That reminds me of when i met my wife in Dublin 11 years ago. A few of us visited the only curry house for miles to be served by Irish guys wearing Turban's to make it look authentic

We are nearly crying with laughter now thinking about it

Talking Re: The Curry Thread

I adore curry

The curry I have really depends on my mood - sometimes I have a Chicken Vindaloo, sometimes a Chicken Tikka Massalla, sometimes a Chicken Madras, if I'm feeling really desperate I have a Chicken Tikka Biriani with Chicken Tikka Massalla
Usually have pilau rice, a peshwari or keema nan and a Bombay aloo side dish

God I'm salivating now!

Same for me.

I have to admit that over time a Jalfrezi has lost it's edge for heat, so once in a while I'll have a chicken Vindaloo, but TBH heat to one side for a moment, the Vindaloo is not as nice tasting as a Jalfrezi. So I often ask for a Jalfrezi with a bit more heat in it! MMmm.

Chicken Madras, Pulau rice and a Peshwari naan, sometimes a Keema naan. Indian and Italian cuisines are my two absolute favourites!

Re: The Curry Thread

You cant beat an Afghan ( Pashtun ) kebab ( known as chapli kebab) with nan or "Peshawar parata" buttered chapati with mince in it.

If you ever get the chance to meet an Afghan cook as him to nock you up something special i am sure you guys would like it.

This combined with fresh ground chilli chutni and a glass or sour milk yoghurt known to the masses as "lassi"

Dude you have now entered heaven

I am thinking of running a curry postal making service for one month or something like that for next year xmas to raise money for St james Hospital.
LMK what you think.

Re: The Curry Thread

Had a curry last night and must say I'm a massive fan of ....

Mixed kebab starter (onion bhaji, chicken tikka, shami, sheekh kebab)
Mint yoghurt, onions, chutney
Chicken Tikka Muglai (mincemeat and egg)
Keema Nan
four cans of erm ..... Carling.

I sometimes prefer the starters to a main course and have a couple of them instead of a main. And also prefer a main with a Naan bread than loads of rice.

Re: The Curry Thread

I love a garlic chilli chicken with pilau rice and peshwari nan, the coconut in the nan balances nicely with the heat of the curry. All washed down with Cobra.

The wife loves it when I roll over and breath in her direction in the middle of the night

Even worse the next day

Oooh I used to have Chicken Ceylon from a local Indian that closed down, haven't seen it at any of the other locals I use - must ask to see if they can do it. I seem to remember it had the same flavour as a good Vindaloo, but without too much heat

Re: The Curry Thread

This reminds me of when i went for my birthday curry a few years ago, i wanted to try the chicken vindaloo but the water wouldn't let me have it! At first i thought he was joking saying it would be too hot, so at first me and my friends thought he was joking around, so i repeated my order again, and again the waiter said no it would be too hot, now i wasn't laughing and felt awkward, i asked a 3rd time and again he mumbled something and said "no, no, no" etc.

So in the end i ordered something else!

Then next year we went back to the same place for my birthday and the same friends attended, this year i was up for an argument i was ready there was no way the waiter was going to catch me out this time, so i ordered the vindaloo.....and this time my order was accepted! Rated the curry very highly but i didn't think it was that hot anyway! hot yes but not what i was expecting.

My default curry is chicken madras, but I am open to try any others, as long as it is chicken, as I don't eat lamb or beef.

Re: The Curry Thread

When I lived in Newcastle 17 years ago there used to be an Indian Restaurant at the top of the Bigg Market where they sold a Challenge Curry on the basis that if you ate all of it you didn't have to pay for it.

It seemed to be the favoured choice of the rufty tufties who felt the need to prove their manhood at every given opportunity and from what I saw, most failed.

Edit - According to Google it's still there although known as the Rupali in my day it is now called Curry Capital

Years ago,we all used to frequent a curry house in Crouch End and whilst the food was excellent, the owner used to think it was very amusing to serve the regulars something at least one grade hotter than you'd ordered, and enjoy the results.

The phal was virtually pure chili with traces of other spices.

Will be having our weekly curry tonight chicken jalfrezi for me and chicken korma for the misses, same as nearly every weekend and some weekdays.

Only difference is tonight there will be a fridge full of beers and the rugby to go with
