Bridges - GOURANGA

GOURANGA - on the side of bridges everywhere. Posted in single letter large squares.

I have always thought that this is a company name that has something to do with bridge construction/maintenance, however someone told me today that it is some kind of weird group/movement.

I have googled and read that it is some sort of Sanskrit term for 'get happy' but who are the people doing it?

It is so consistent over the whole of Yorkshire and elsewhere, I cannot imagine it is the work of a small group.

What is the answer?

I'd also like to add, why haven't the government, councils removed them?

LoL ............don't do drugs and do't have my beer head on today.

It's true all over Yorkshire, Manchester and most of the M1, A1 the word GOURANGA is posted in individual letters on the side of each and every bridge.

Google it, it is insane............

Yeah... Never seen any of them, then again I don't look out for them. Next time I come across a bridge, I'll stop and look for ya.

*backs away slowly from the crazy man*

Still got a "ban the bomb" sign on our bridge, that's worn well. never seen a Gouranga in the south.

Re: Bridges - GOURANGA

I've seen the signs around the M65 for a few years now. I've wondered how the people who did it managed it; did they hang over the edge of the bridge in the dead of night?

Haven't seen Gouranga for years...has the fashion come back again? Used to be yellow background with black lettering...is it still the same?

I'm fairly sure it's the Hare Krishner's saying of choice. I seem to remember that if you ran over a line of them in the original GTA then this phrase would appear on screen.

Thats exactly what it is.

When i go to glasgow shopping there are loads of Hare Krishners roaming the streets trying to sell their magazines and trying to convert you to their beliefs etc. when you just say to them 'no thanks' or 'bog off' they shout after you asking you to say Gouranga!!

Yep, loads round the Mcr area - M62/M56 IIRC. I'd like to know what it's all about too!
