My brother came home today with some homework from his IT class.
Hopefully some of you may be able to help.
The question was "what are the advantages and disadvantage's of using a word processor to create a webpage"
I've asked some people no one knew.
cheers

I've asked some people no one knew. | I'm not going to do his homework for him, but I'll give him a hint. He needs to think about what HTML is designed to do, what word processors are designed to do, and about the benefits of separating presentation from content...

A quick summary:
Advantages:
Quick, easy, doesn't require much in the way of specialist knowledge.
Disadvantages:
Not as flexible as they tend not to deal with more advanced features (forms, style sheets). The code it produces isn't as clean as a dedicated program such as Dreamweaver or hand coding it yourself.

I've asked some people no one knew. | Advantages - erm... ... ... I can't think of any advantages. Cost isn't even an advantage with so many free tools out there.
Disadvantages - No code formatting, no error highlighting, no validation, if he uses something like MS Word then "Save as..." HTML, it will no doubt be bloated and inefficient code.
Of course, if you're using the word processor purely as a text editor, it's perfectly possible to create a decent site, you'd just need to be careful with your code.
Bit of a bizarre question. You could make a web page in a word processor, but why on earth would you want to?? What's his next bit of homework going to be, "What are the advantages and disadvantages of using Microsoft Outlook as an alarm clock?"
Change schools imo |

Not the most helpful of replies to a new member really. Not that I know the answer all I know about creating web pages could be lost on a postage stamp but I can see why the question is being asked. Its one of those kind of questions that you can't really type into google and get a sensible answer without trawling through thousands of hits that are completely irrelevant. So i wish the OP well in finding her answer which I am confident some member will be able to do. Probably better to post in the computer forums to find that person though.

cheers | Disadvantage: It's not a WYSIWYG editior. Like FrontPage (now called something else) or DreamWeaver.
Either way, thats a terrible question. The question should be: "I want to create a webpage, which program should I use?"
Frankly, I don't know anyone who uses a word processor to create a webpage. :\

Am a System Architect with lots of experience.
Schools don't do IT (or should I say they don't do ICT).
A lot of Computer Science graduates not that well versed either nowadays.
