I'm off to Vegas soon, I'll need to call home.

I'll be taking my unlocked phone, but wanted to pre-purchase a sim card that would give me cheaper minutes?

Anybody done this before - maybe buying an american sim, or a pre-paid travel sim (like those pre-paid calling cards used to be)?

Unless you have a tri-band mobile, it won't work in the US. But if you do have the right kind of phone, it should be fairly straightforward buying a SIM card once you're over there. This website has some useful info - http://www.travel-america.co.uk/traveltools.asp
