Specsavers

Any good ?

Usually go to local independent optician - and pair of glasses sets me back around £300 (lenses and frames)

But thinking of giving specsavers a go and taking advantage of there buy one get one free offer

Anyone any experiance of them ? are there any limits to the offer ?

Re: Specsavers

They are expensive... which puts your independent into context I bought glasses and free 2nd pair, which I got tinted for £120

There is a website online which escapes me where if you know your prescription, just choose the frames and pay about 1/2 specsavers price

How do these "online" places work ?

I usually pay about £300 or so for ONE pair of glasses (although do go for more expensive frames and usually have the thin lenses) thought Specsavers seemed quite good value - about same price but for two pairs

Re: Specsavers

You could have a look at Tesco. I recently recounted my positive experiences with them HERE.

Re: Specsavers

You get your eyes tested and then enter the prescription onto an online form, (as long as you can decipher your opticians writing), pay your money, and wait for them to arrive. You can even "try them on" if you have a photo of yourself. I used them and would recommend them, if you only want straightforward frames and lenses (no tints etc) I think they are around £30-35. They do more expensive ones as well, but nowhere near high street prices.

Cheers

Will do

Looking at Glasses Direct and the "basic" price does indeed seem VERY good

However little unsure about lense thickness, I have very poor eyesight, so much so that without glasses EVERYTHING is a blur

As such I always tend to go for thinner lenses

What was a £35 pair of glasses with Ultra Ultra Thin lense turned into an £165 pair !

Also do I need

Scratch resistant coating FREE
Anti-reflective coating FREE
UV400 protective coating £15

Whats ur prescription ? my eyes are around -12.5 each eye so i'm pretty much blind without my glasses. I recently got a pair of specs for around £350.00. Frames were D&G and lenses were the ultra thin glass (as they're thinner than plastic) I think with all the coatings you wanted.

They were an independent as going to somewhere like spec savers or D&A would cost around £600
