Insect bite, My poor lad!!

My son was bitten by 'an insect' whilst playing football on Friday, been to doctors and got the usual antibiotics etc.

Just want to know has anyone been bitten by an insect and for reassurance, do they all look like this!!!
Warning pics are a little gruesome!!

Nasty, first picture - right hand bite, it looks like there is something still in there. (I'm not a doctor though)

Get well soon.

That is nasty! my brother once go bitten by a horsefly while on holiday, 6 months later when parts of his arm started to swell & become itchy the docs found horsefly lava in his arm. Not nice, best to keep an eye on that.

Re: Insect bite, My poor lad!!

Piriton (Antihistamine tablet) does wonders for me, I have a bad allergic reaction to insect bites too, when I was a teenager I got bit by a red ant a couple of times and my arm swell to twice the size! Had to sleep with the arm in the air it was that painfull!

Piriton only really stops the itching though, but as with most drugs its all in your head, if you think they're gonna work they will..

Well done though for not really scratching at them, if that were me i'd have been so tempted to squeeze all the infection out!

It would be perfectly safe on the left wound, and on the right as long as the cream is not spread over the burst blister. My daughter has had several bites from horse flies this summer, and the first looked much worse than those in the picture. The first one, for which we did not seek medical advice, caused a large tennis ball sized swelling and removed a section of skin on her arm roughly the size and shape of a 50p. When she got bitten again, before the first one had healed, we consulted our GP. She told us to use Anthisan cream and the results were very good. The swelling on the second bite was reduced in a day or so (compared to a week with the first one) and led to no skin loss. Although the advice on the cream was not to use it on an open wound, our GP recommended we use it on the first bite as well as the second.

Re: Insect bite, My poor lad!!

One of my work colleagues has just been bitten and her leg had swollen up very bad. She put TCP on the wound and also put her ankles in salt water. Looked better following day. Chemist only gave her pain killers for it
Hers were weeping to but I think that has stopped

Re: Insect bite, My poor lad!!

Breakers has been to the Docs on Friday (I believe) and as is usual, AVForums official advice is take him back if you are worried...

If it still looks like that definitely get down to your GP...

Re: Insect bite, My poor lad!!

If you pop down to a good Pharmacist they should be able to prescribe something for the bite.

Hope it gets better....

At my GP's surgery you're not even allowed to make an appointment for the following week, unhelpful gits that they are. Something to do with falsifying performance against government targets probably.

The NHS is even more of a shambles than I thought. I sincerely hope I never have to rely on it in a serious way, and have sympathy for those that do.

Same here.. If I phone say on the Monday for an appointment and Monday is fully booked and so is Tuesday, I have to phone back on Tuesday to book an appointment for Wednesday but you can't get through until past 9am and then your chances are Wednesday is already fully booked.

Our docs seem to have the best idea then, nobody can pre book an appointment, phone lines open at 8:30am, online booking (yes online booking!) opens at 8am. 99% of the time no problem getting an appointment.

That obviously disadvantages people without internet access (a lot of older people I would imagine), but sounds like it would work for most people.

Whatever the method, it would be much better is we had consistency in this across all GPs in the country instead of each doing their own thing. Then the government statistics on this might even start to mean something.
