any runners or joggers out there ??????

hi, i am after some advice on decent running shoes albeit not for jogging in ??

i will explain!

basically im after a decent pair of trainers for my dad as through years of hard graft in removals he has a collapsed arch/instep which in turn over the years has developed in to problems with his leg and now his veins resulting in a lot of pain.
he wont take my advice and buy some trainers that will be a lot more comfortable than the shoes he wears now. he's still old-fashioned and still wears trousers and flat shoes so im going to buy him some jeans and a pair of trainers.

having done a few searches on the net i think its either new balance or asics??

so any advice on any that will mainly support the arch area would be apprieciated.

thanks in advance

Asics IMO are the best trainer for running, not flashy but consistently excellent.

hi.
as i said they are not for running in just leisure. something that is comfortable for him to wear and hopefully ease a bit of pain.

i have just read through a link which was very helpful so i might look further into asics but there not cheap are they!

If you're planning on buy him shoes that he has not tried on then I would strongly advise against that, especially as he has foot problems. It may be well intended but isn't likely to help.

I wouldn't assume that running shoes would help the situation either. I think the best way you could help is to book your Dad an appointment with a podiatrist for professional advice, as suggested above.

Re: any runners or joggers out there ??????

Deffo, deffo, deffo get some professional advice from a podiatrist first. Getting the wrong type of trainers will only exacerbate the situation. Trainers come in a wide variety of types depending on your gait / foot type and you don't want to get the wrong type. EG. My feet pronate which means that I need trainers with a lot of support.
A professional running shop may help. They will be able to examine the foot/gait and recommend trainers to suit - but check they have staff who are also qualified podiatrists (my local shop has).

Re: any runners or joggers out there ??????

My wife has problems with the arches on her feet. She saw the local podiatrist and they fitted her out with a set of special insoles that support her feet properly. So she can wear any pair of shoes she likes.

So get him down to your local health centre
