Re: London Bomb

Bombs are meant to cause mass damage.

No 'apparently' about it.

Perhaps the guy just had his car converted to LPG?

Must go and watch some more of the entertaining reporting on the 24hr news programmes.

According to our news stations the guy may have 'lost control' of the car and got out and ran away (a real pro), hence raising suspicion.

Well it is shocking when I go online to catch up on current affairs (given the printed press is also a day behind)

The world really does have a knack of bringing you back down to earth

P.S. I did say I'm at the library right now God bless public funded services

Apparently Paramedics were called out to the Tiger Tiger Nightclub at 1am concerning a separate incident. When they got there, they noticed a car which appeared to have smoke inside, so contacted the police. So it would seem luck was on our side this time.

The car was found to have petrol, gas canisters and loads of nails. This was definitely going to have caused massive carnage.

The target is still unknown, but it seems to be maybe have been targeted at those leaving the clubs at 3am.

The bomb disposal crew did not use a robot, and defused the car with their bare hands so think they deserve a lot of respect for their bravery.

Re: London Bomb

I was caught in the traffic around Regent St/Soho/Covent Garden this morning because of it, at the time I felt aggrieved at being delayed but when I heard what it was about, it puts things into perspective

Re: London Bomb

a zillion thanks to the Police/bomb squad and others for averting an atrocity

I thank my lucky stars for staying at the home office today rather than tubing it like the rest of the week .... although previously have been commuting/working nearby when such incidents were tragically not averted (IRA Covent Garden early 90s, Madrid 3/11 and London 7/7)

Re: London Bomb

We know exactly what is going on. Disenfranchised young men who's youthful, black and white, sense of right and wrong, have been turned toward extremism in the misguided belief there is a God that will thank them for it.

It's a credit to the security forces and British public that we aren't talking about large death tolls this weekend.

My thoughts are with my asian friends. Muslim, Sikh and in one case Christian. I'm not going to have to put up with right wing, knuckle dragging fwits for the next few weeks.

Well I would suspect it's got something to do with the fact we've just got a new prime minister, and he happens to be Scottish....

Now reports saying when the passengers got out of the car, they were pouring petrol on it to make sure it caught fire. What is this world coming to?

It's just something I've heard, but I am not sure Al Qaeda place particular significance on anniversaries or on dates generally. Also, I think if we change our behaviour because of such things, the terrorists have succeeded. That's just always been my view from living in London, through numerous terrorist campaigns, and also living in the US during 9/11.

Statistically speaking, we are far more likely to die during an innocent car journey. But we still drive cars.

Re: London Bomb

Thank God these terrorists are so inept at doing their 'job'. Seems like this one didn't detonate properly, the 2 in london got found before they could do any damage, looks like a pretty shoddy cell that's responsible for these latest attacks, let's just hope the people that have been caught today are willing to cooperate (I doubt it though) and shed some light on other possible targets
