Anyone who like a gamble/bet should read this

Ok folks first of all this is just my idea. Don't blame me if you lose money gambling but i think i have a great no lose idea!

Right, i hate casino's and never go but say for example if you bet on a 50/50 thing like red or black on a roulette wheel then i have a plan where you cant lose.

Place a bet on say red @ £1.
If you lose double your bet to £2 next time and double your bet everytime you lose until you win. In a 50/50 game it wont take long until you win and therefore you will always win your original bet plus your stake as long as you have the funds to double up everytime you lose.

When you do win pocket your original stake and start again.

What do you think?
John.

Re: Anyone who like a gamble/bet should read this

Yeah it's a pretty old idea the only problem being you need a massive reserve of cash to pull it off effectively. Most of the time you will win in the first few attempts say at £4 or £8.

In order to gain anything you need to play for higher stakes, baring in mind most casinos have a minimum stake of a fiver it is realistic that you could go 8 times without winning. so that would be

5
10
20
40
80
160
320
640

So before you know it you're into big losses.

Its an old method and obviously works but I think if you tried it at a casino at best you would soon be asked to leave and at worst you would need help to leave as walking with a couple of broken legs is difficult

You will also find that bet limits are placed for certain types of bets; red/black, dozens etc. You may reach the table limit before getting your money back!

Re: Anyone who like a gamble/bet should read this

Richard Branson tried this in the very early days of Virgin Records. He had a losing streak and had to go to one of his shops in the middle of the night and empty the safe, win back the money and return the money that night before his accountant found out!
So bad news, it can fail. Good news, you think like a proven self made billionaire!

BTW, red/black isn't 50/50. There is a 0, and in the US I believe a 00 which count as neither.

Re: Anyone who like a gamble/bet should read this

It's a very old idea called the "Martingale" bet.

You need big money and big something else to make it work. If you're a "low roller" you will run out of money.

Don't bother. Vegas wasn't built on winners you know....

Re: Anyone who like a gamble/bet should read this

I play roulette online and the strategy you say can be bettered by spreading your bets around more. For example, placing bets on black, odd, first 12, last 12 etc and if you're good at maths you can ensure that from a £10 stake you have a better chance of winning than a simple coin toss

Re: Anyone who like a gamble/bet should read this

I play roulette the odd time on line.

I hit black 16 times in a row and then 0 3 times in a row and all the while I was betting on red.

Went back to the roulette table the next day and put a tenner on 0, and believe it or not it came in.

So so so lucky.

I have never played it since.

Casinos certainly wouldn't throw you out for using the Martingale "betting system" and in fact actively encourage punters to believe in this theory and the other "sure thing" theories which obviously wont work.

As has been mentioned above the Casion has a 2.70% house edge in Europe due to the single 0 and a 5.26% house edge in the US due to the 0 and 00. Long term there is no way of winning at roulette bar cheating in some way due to the above odds. You will also come up against the casinos maximum bet, and the limits of your stake.

Your chances of winning are always worse than the toss of a coin due to the single 0 which gives the house a 2.7% edge, it makes no difference if you try even/odds red/black or half the numbers.

On the zero you only lose 50% though, not everything.

Ok if the casino is using the en prison or la partage rule make that 1.35% edge for the house, the person will still loose all their money, but it will just take longer

Wesley Snipes told me to always bet on black in Passenger 57, so I do.

There is only one bet that makes sense (from a maths point of view) in Roulette and that is to work out how much you are ever likely to bet on the game in your life, and place it all on one number - and then walkaway.

Daydreaming in class many years ago I also came up with this idea.
Like JW I thought I'd invented it.
I read later that it was ages old and, as you say, known as the Martingdale bet.
The principal of increasing your bet to recoup your losses is what makes casino owners, bookies etc rich.
It's also the bug and gets addicted gamblers hooked.
