I have one delivered every day. Ironically the paper in question only offers an online subscription to people living outside the UK, otherwise I would be subscribing to an online version.

I like to buy the Times on occasion, especially when I need to travel from Euston > Manchester and vice versa

Also buy Total Film and Empire each month, though I do not like the new layout Total have given the mag. Really I should subscribe...

Exclamation Re: Newspapers

Hi,

I buy a paper at least once a week: either The Times, The Guardian or The Independant. (Won't touch one of the red-top rags! Far too chavvy, for my liking!)

I also try and get the Metro as often as possible. Despite having all the wonderful technology that we have nowadays, there's nothing better than reading something (book, newspaper or magazine) that doesn't require electricity to use it! And how many of you, would be happy to sit and read something off your mobile, Blackberry or portable PC, whilst in the bath, or on the bog?!

I really do hope that printed media never dies out! If it does, it will be a very sad day indeed.

I'd be more inclined to buy a paper if they were half the size of what they currently are. It's just a pain in the arse.

Re: Newspapers

I eschew UK newspapers. They no longer provide news as they have been superseded by technology. So they sell a by line or an opinion instead. Often they go out of their way to be sensationalist and pander to all that's worse in the public.

They are far too powerful and influence public opinion for the worst. They demonise the inner city youth, the Islamic faith and anyone who isn't a Anglo-Saxon Christian. They are a nasty political tool design to fudge and blur the truth. They bury real stories. They are everything that Joseph Goebbels dreamt of. They play to the ego of the white middle classes and stiffle the working classes with celebrity mind rot media darling diversions.

I subscribe to Time magazine. It never seems to run out. It combines some of the material from the US version with European items. IT gives a good perspective on the UK. There was an excellent, objective article about Gordon Brown the other day that you just would not have found in a UK daily newspaper.

Re: Newspapers

I used to buy the Guardian Monday-Saturday, but found in the week I ended up just skim reading it and it seemed a waste. I always get it on Saturday still, you can't beat reading the paper in bed on a Sunday morning.

I'll occasionally buy it midweek if I'm on holiday (not abroad, blowed if I'm paying £3.50 for a newspaper) or on plane and train journeys if I haven't been organized enough to take a book or something to listen to.

Re: Newspapers

Don't buy papers myself. Flick through the odd one at parents house or when lying around in work.

For me they are generally a waste of money - well for news anyway. Sure by the time its printed its old news in this ever changing world. Plus I am on the net quite often and watch the odd Sky News/Channel 4 news so am covered there too.

What I can't grasp are the tabloids. They are now 75% gossip, celebrity news, TV news and pics of people on their hols/nights out. Who cares? Obviously we have enough people buying them to keep quite a few going. And what news there is in them is not presented the best.
