The Maldives - any tips?

Off to the Maldives in a few weeks!

Never been before so does anyone have any tips?

What money do they use? How much cash should we take if its all inclusive + we have credit cards?

What electric do they use? Can i take and charge my ipod, mobile and psp?

What mobile phone band do they use?

Do you have to have any injections?

Re: The Maldives - any tips?

I went there years ago.

Have search of Trip Advisor or one of those.

Currency when I went they LOVED US$

We did have injections etc but I can't recall what - probably typhoid, malaria etc, Usual tropical stuff.

Can't comment on voltage.

Will be VERY suprised if mobiles of much use. Many of the resorts are minute. Where we stayed took 10 minutes to walk around the whole island!

Where we went (and I can;t recall the resort) was lovely but VERY quiet. It was really only beach, snorkelling and thats about it.

Beautiful but no much to do. A real romantic do nothing kind of place.

Re: The Maldives - any tips?

been twice since 2001.

$us still best, if all inclusive i'd take money for tips - the people there treat you brilliantly and will make your holiday a total pleasure - tip well as they get paid **** all and you'll really feel like they deserve it.
If you take any old football shirts their kids will be friends for life

In terms of what to do - take LOTS of books. but it's anything but boring... diving, deep sea fishing etc available at extra cost on most islands.

the things you'll have to pay (through the nose) for if you don't take enough are camera films (if you still use them) sun creams and anything imported basically.

Which island are you going to????
Check the resorts rules on what drinks are included as well and at what times - there's usually hidden extras such as drinking after midnight and certain eating areas not being included - these can go on your bill for credit card anyway i guess.

No topless sunbathing unless you want to get in trouble (although i did spot a couple of nice pairs in very quiet bits) and it was illegal to take alcohol into the maldives so stash anything you buy on the way out well

Mobile [phones do now work on a lot of the islands but i can't remember the network for the life of me... it was about £1.50 a minute to receive or make calls so i'd leave it off - you won't want it when you get there anyway.

Most of the islands now have an internet terminal/room and also a tv room.

There is not a lot to do in the maldives but the setting is so stunning and the diving/snorkelling is jaw dropping... drink lots and relax

Oh and power - can't remember but a general boots universal power adapter worked both times.

The best thing i did was invest in an underwater case for my digital camera - got stunning shots and really good for memories a couple of years later...
