Baffled by Thunderbird

Hi

I have a massive filter folder where all my subscribed threads messages arrive from AV forums. We are talking thousands of saved mails.

I simply want to empty this folder.

It should so easy, but apparently not.

What is the correct way of emptying a folder in Thunderbird that won't lose my filter or require I make another folder of the same name, please?

I tried highlighting the folder name and "Compact folder" but it appears to have zero effect.

I only want to compact or empty this one folder. I always need to be able to access my Inbox and Sent folders for a couple of years backwards in time.

Thanks

Re: Baffled by Thunderbird

1. Click on the top email in the folder.

2. Hold down the Shift key.

3. While still holding down the shift key, scroll down and click on the bottom email in the folder. This will highlight all of the emails in the folder.

4. Release the Shift key

5. Click the Delete button.

Probably easier to switch off the email alerts and just use the subscribed threads page at:

Re: Baffled by Thunderbird

True, Gary, but that wouldn't had got rid of the 6k previous posts.

I can't compact all folders automatically because I like to maintain records over long time periods as memory jogs to previous online activities. Having multiple websites, blogs and multiple personalities on probably 100 forums, spread over so many specialist interests means keeping tabs on everything (with my memory like a sieve) would be otherwise rather difficult.

Initially I only started this just to be able to talk to somebody in English.
So I joined one forum. It's been a riot! Luckily I'm completely offline when I'm at work!
